What software do I need

Hi all,
Just wondering what I need to do this, prefer freeware but If I need to buy somthing, is there 1 package that can do it all.

I recently got a video camera, burns right to a DVD. I can get it on my computer fine and reburn it no problem. I want to be able to remix it. remove scenes and parts of scenes. take video from several sources and make 1 dvd out of it. Make my own scene selection, and get a still picture from the video.
Do I need to convert it to a diffrent format to do all this?

I use mostly windows but do know linux, at the time I dont have a computer running linux but if I need one ill get one up and running.

Try freeware - DVD Shrink in re-author mode.

Use this guide - http://www.dvdshrink.info/compilation.php to compile stuff from several projects onto 1 DVD.

You will also need to learn to use the start/end frames feature to cut bits out of your originals. See http://www.dvdshrink.info/re-author-advanced.php for that

DVD shrink worked, it has minor issues, when combining DVD you lose the menu.. I tried some of the free menu making software around, very hard to use. There is a lot goign on on a DVD that I was unaware of. Also when I cut sectons out I cant rewind the DVD past the splice. I only looked at one of the splices I will look onto it more tonight.

besides that for simple stuff it works.

How about a commercial product. for combining DVDs, they are small so even without shrinking them they will fit on a DVD, cutting sections out, and most of all an easy way to make a menu, like select a screen and have a still as a thumbnail, and have that thumbnail link to that part of the DVD. I just dont have the time to work with the freeware I ahve found, I dont remember the names of them but they are not that simple to use. any suggestions.

Zane217, You might want to take a look at DVD-Remake Pro, DVD Lab Pro, Ulead DVD Workshop 2, and even NeroVision Express. Any of those should do what talking about.

You can d/l a trial version of most video editing software. Try some of the programs untill find one you fill comfortable with and learn it. It might be worth your money to invest in one of the programs that you like and does what you want. 2 of my favorites are mpeg video wizard and Ulead video studio
