Captions and Subtitles

OK - I know that you all know the difference between captioning and subtitles. Captions need a TV that has captioning while subtitles are just standalone reguardless of the TV. Just curious, I have some discs that have Closed Captioning but not subtitles - so it will not show up on my portable player. I was wondering, is there a way to convert them into subtitles so the subtitle button will turn them on? I know they carry over into the PC because when I use Shrink or Decrypter it retains them after I burn.
