Question about TMPGEnc DVD Author (1.6)

Hey. I just got this program and it is pretty cool - it successfully merged 4 DVDs to one and made the titles and chapters that I wanted. However, why does it remove the subtitles? It only lets you choose one language... where as DVD Shrink re-author keeps all of them... and it somehow removes the subtitles. How can I put the subs back in?

As you found out. The program does have some limitations. You are correct that it can only have only one audio stream. It also cannot recognise DTS at the moment.

Subtitles are always removed. I have never seen a guide to put them back in before. That guide looks like it will be useful for some people. It is not something I need. I mainly use TDA to create DVD-R's from DVD RAM which has TV recordings on.

Well, that guide did me no good. Mainly because I used DVD Author to combine titles - so the DVD Shrink one has 7 titles while the Author one has 4 titles. That does not work well with the actions and whatnot. Is there another program that is simple that can do the following:

Combine two titles to form one
          Keep subtitles
          Make menus

Will Nero do that? If I use Recode or just New DVD Video and then just drag the VOB files? I know that it makes menus and can change titles.

          ---EDIT---
Well, I got it using a combination of Nero Recode and that site. Anyway there is a problem with it. When the title is done playing, it either tries to go the next one or get trapped in a black screen. It will not go back to the menu. I am using Nero ShowTime and opening the Video_TS IFO file because I do not want to waste countless discs on silly errors like these. I will let you know if I fix this. For now, I need help.

I do a lot of cutting and pasting and printing of posts for hints and tips and fill up 4 inch binders. I came across this for the subtitle thing. I don't know anything about this stuff but maybe it'll help.

Complete (ALL Audio and Subtitles) DVD Shrink Clips to TMPGEnc DVD Author

            1) DVD Shrink - Re-author "Start/End"

            2) TMPGEnc DVD Author - Author clip AS ONE CHAPTER (It will be silent) with
            desired menu

            3) Replace TMPGEnc DVD Author's "VTS_01_1.VOB" with DVDShrink's "VTS_01_1.VOB"

            4) (Easier than using IFOEdit) DVDLab - Tools dropdown menu - "IFO Editor -
Audio" - Select the DVD TMPGEnc DVD Author "package" "VTS_01_0.IFO". Change
number of audiostreams from "1" to actual number. Then, for each audiostream,
enter appropriate information (# of channels, format, language, etc.)

            5) IFOEdit - Save modified .IFOs and .BUPs (Cosmetic - Open modified
            "VTS_01_0.IFO", Select "VTSI_MAT" and change value at "[00000255]" from 4 to 1.
            Resave.)

            6) IFOEdit (To fix appearance of subtitles) - Open DVD Shrink clip's
"VTS_01_0.IFO". Select "VTS_PGCITI, click on "+" and then select "VTS_PGC_1". From
"Subtitle color" dropdown menu, select "Copy colors from this PGC"

6A) While still in "VTS_PGC_1" - Manually copy Sub-picture stream status
            numbers starting at [0000001c]

            7) IFOEdit - Open modified "VTS_01_0.IFO". Select "VTS_PGCITI, click on "+"
and then select "VTS_PGC_1". From "Subtitle color" dropdown menu, select "Paste
            colors into this PGC"

7A) While still in "VTS_PGC_1" - Manually enter Sub-picture stream status
            numbers starting at [0000001c]

            8) Save modified .IFOs and .BUPs

Sounds complicated So I will give it a try but it will probably fail, knowing my level of skills in DVD editing. I am good with software but not DVD terms like PCG and things like that.

              for the help!

Complicated it looks, and over my head right now. I don't do much of that kinda stuff.
