TMPGenc DVD Author + Widescreen

Sorry if I'm going back over old ground but I can't see an identical post to this so here goes:

I have sky+ and separate DVD recorder, both set to Widescreen format as my TV is w/s. If I record a TV series (for example) onto DVDRW I like to use the PC and take the VIDEOTS folder(s) into TMPGENC DVD author and make a menu, cut out adverts etc.

BUT Am I missing something? It seems that if i record onto the DVDRW in widescreen, take it to PC then after I have re-authored it with Dvd Author it is treating it as a 4:3 picture and giving it that awful 'stretching' look.

Is DVD author capable of doing w/s and if so, have i missed a setting somewhere?

Grateful for any pointers in the right direction.

TDA is actually a pretty basic prog. It does a good job of guessing how a DVD needs to be authored. I'm sure there is a setting in there somewhere.

But to solve your issue, there's an easier way.

• Open your DVD project in PgcEdit - see link in my signature.
• Right click on the title that is giving you problems and select Domain Stream Attributes.
• Change the video from 4:3 to 16:9 automatic letterbox.
• Save and close.

Check it out in a software player.

I use DVD author as it's capable of taking in the VIDEO_TS structure but would use 'more intelligent' alternatives if they are out there. I'm not bent on using DVD Author it's just that it's more familiar.

Like I said, these all in ones are not real good authoring progs. Hardly worth the $$$ IMHO, but lotsa people like 'em.

I also use TDA with a DVD Recorder and record onto DVD RAM. The aspect ratios for both 4:3 and 16:9 stay intact but it comes up as 4:3 in the software as that is what is recorded in the discs IFO's. I am not bothered, as I all I need to do is put the TV in 16:9 mode to get everything looking the way it is supposed to be (I have a widescreen TV).

Blutach's method works if you are bothered.

nwg you hit the nail on the head! TDA doesn't do anything wrong making the DVD it's just the tv setting

Anyway, each to his own - I still reckon TDA is a lotta $$$ when freeware can do the trick.

He has. The disc just doesn't have the 16:9 flag on it and 16:9 has to be done manually. Your PGcedit method will make it automatic.
