This DVD has been copied

Hi Guys & Gals,
I'm new to this forum, so not sure if this post is where it should be.
The question is regarding copyright issues. I am not particularly concerned about people copying my work, however I would like a warning message to be flashed on the screen of a copied disk. Does anyone no if it would be possible to put a small program onto a dvd that would flash up a "This dvd has been copied" message when the disk was placed in a standard player. I guess it would work similar to how a virus works. I understand that when a dvd is burned, the burners serial number is placed on the disk, could this be used.
I don't know how it would work.
Advice please.

As far as I know, no, it is not possible. The easiest way to tell if it is a copy is to see if the disc says DVD-/+R with permanent marker writing on it. The reason I say no, is because with DVD Decrypter, people will be able to remove that, similar to removing ARccOS protection. You could maybe flash a copyright screen saying that you don't want people copying it or whatever.

If the major Hollywood studios can't stop people removing their copy protections and copyright warnings and flash up a screen saying "this is an illegal copy" where disks have been copied, I don't think anyone can.

I'm not really interested in stopping people copying my dvd's as I know that there are people and software that can remove the most sophisticated protection. However, it would be nice and probably funny to put some kind of message on the screen of a copied dvd. This would be aimed at the general pc user who does the odd copy and knows nothing about copy protection.

You just have to get hold of something unique in your Media like the publisher id/ provider id and then check in your software if they match or not, if they do not, bring up a disclaimer. Just from my vague thinking, donno if it will work or how this will work

In the DVD-Video standard, it is not possible to test the publisher ID. And, of course, it will be copied as well. So this method cannot work.

With the VM commands, it is only possble to test the region code of the player. This is known as RCE protection. But of course, if the region code is not what you want, it doesn't mean that the DVD has been copied. Only that it is played in a region it is not intended for. And, of course, most of the decrypting programs do remove this protection.

So, in short, no, it's not possible to do what you want.

The modified version of DVDXCOPY Platinum puts a message at the start That this is a copy and the person who copied it owns an original copy. I guess this was put in to allow it to be sold. It comes on 2 CDs one contains program and the other puts in the registration code that allows it to work. You have to click on buttons that state you own the original and it is not a rented DVD. This is sold in US by Surplus Computers which is an online store as well as a brick & mortar store. This comes bundled with some burners too.

Any editor worth its salt can get round that in 15 seconds. I have done disks with DVDXC and saw the very lame stuff they put on the disk.

I think you can add a short video image that plays at the beginning of the disc that reads whatever you want.
