MenuShrink crashes on Into the Blue

I am helping a friend back up his purchased movie "Into the Blue". I used VobBlanker first to blank all and process except for main title (processed in input folder, like I always do.) Then used menushrink.

It comes up with the first couple menus but then crashes saying "menushrink.exe has generated errors a log files is being created"

I am unable to view the log file because it is crashing. Is the log file saved seperately somewhere?? I can't find it, nor get to it.

The movie plays fine off the hard drive so I know the rip is good.

    Whats wrong?

Interesting - what version of MenuShrink are you using? 2.3 is the latest.

Also, have you tried VobBlanker's Menu2Still function?

      Yes version 2.3
Tried it on 2 different machines but using the same disc.... would be nice to know if anyone else has this same problem.

And yes I know about Vobblanker's Menu2still function; it looks nice but I am more used to using menushrink.

Up till now used menushrink many times and never gave me any problem.

Me neither. Can you try with VobBlanker just to see if MenuShrink needs fixing? I'm sure Jeanl will wanna know if something's not quite right.

Try doing a menu mock strip of the menu VTS where the problems occur - see link in my signature.

mmm, I'd like to be able to reproduce this bug! Cendrik, how big are the menus? If they're not too large (say, less than 150MB), you could possibly zip them up, with the IFO files and send that to me (use www.yousendit.com) to jeanldvd at free dot fr. This should enable me to reproduce the problem.
If they're big, can you find out which VTS is making menushrink crash? Make sure the log window is open when you run menushrink, then run it and see which VTS is being processed when the crash occurs. Then, just send me that VTS (with ALL the IFOs)...
          jeanl
          A couple PgcEdit guides
MenuShrink can shrink your menus to 5-10% of their original size.

Well Vobblanker menu2still seemed to work, but it didn't blank the outro's..... here is what I did, along with the log. Maybe this log will help you figure out what is going on with menushrink?

            Did this first using vobblanker:
            -Checkmarked "Blank cells without buttons"
-Right click selected "all with buttons" (in the menu pgc's list) and then hit "one still" button.

-Then followed this advice from jsoto's page:
"If you want to just still the menus and leave the title untouched. You can do this by checking the Use Input Folder in the settings area. Uncheck Process Titles and the Change post into precomm(both). This will process the menus in same folder as the input, while creating a "VobBlanker_backup" folder with the original menus."

            -Hit Process
            -Closed Vobblanker
-Renamed the backup folder to bak1 so I could keep it yet.

            -Re-opened Vobblanker
            -Clicked use input folder
            -Selected Blank all
            -Skipped main movie vts
            -Then process

Here's the log attached (from the first 'process'/part of what I did)
            Attached Files

No need to rename the VobBlanker backup folder as VobBlanker does this for you automatically

This should enable me to reproduce the problem.
If they're big, can you find out which VTS is making menushrink crash? Make sure the log window is open when you run menushrink, then run it and see which VTS is being processed when the crash occurs. Then, just send me that VTS (with ALL the IFOs)...

I did what you said with the log window. It is crashing (for me) on VTS_16_0.VOB I will try to send that and the ifo's soon.

After it crashes, it is odd, VTS_16_0.VOB is 0 byte filesize. But in the backup it is it's normal size.
                  Edit: There I sent the file "INTO_THE_BLU.ZIP" ~ 107k (Has all ifo's and VTS_16_0.VOB)
Edit: Just so you know I have these options checkmarked in advanced options (in menushrink) [X] Preview Select [X] Remove "Stop" in subpics [X] Skip intro/outro clips

Thanks, I got the VOB... Is it the original? It's really tiny (374kb)...
The problem comes from the fact that there's no picture header in the first video pack. I'm not sure whether this is legit, but that's what causes the crash (that, and sloppy programming). I fixed the problem so menushrink no longer crashes, but it's not able to do much on that VTS, since it can't find any I-frame. I've never seen that before. The first frame of a GOP has to be an I-frame (that's specs), and I'm pretty sure there should be a picture header...
Is this VOB file the original? Did you do anything to it?

                    A couple PgcEdit guides
MenuShrink can shrink your menus to 5-10% of their original size.

The only thing I did was use VobBlanker first, like I always have done in the past. So, it is from right after I did the initial blanking with VobBlanker.

I should be using menushrink before vobblanker?

Did you process VTS16's menus with VobBlanker? It seems strange. Maybe you got a bad DVD, that's all. How did you rip it? With DVD Decrypter? Perhaps post a ripping log.

Yes I used dvddecrypter, it seems to me I remember it was fine. Also, how come nothing didn't show up odd in the vobblanker's log when I used motion2still with that? It must process things differently?

I no longer have my friend's original disc... only the files.

Well, I suggest you get the DVD back from the friend before asking further questions. This is awfully close to a breach of rule 6 as it is unclear where the copied disk is ending up.
