The Burning of DVDs

Hi all you DVD buffs,

This web site is a great introduction into the world of DVD burning.
I will start off saying that I am a virgin at this "burning of DVD's"

I am sure someone out there has patience and will answer/guide me to some
questions i need answers for.

1. Having burnt a couple of DVD's and doing it OK. My question is, can one only play them on a PC and not on a regular DVD machine hooked up to the TV? If the answer is one can, then why dont mine work??????
How can one make them work on a regular DVD machine/hooked up to the TV.

2. Can one do an exact copy ( The whole contents) of a regular DVD film on a DVD DL, and which is one of the best software programs.
I have DVDFabDecrypter-DVD Shrink-DVDwizrad Pro and Nero7.

Yes, they can play on stand alone DVD players, you just need to match the players capabilities to the blank media (ie. if the player only plays -R media, you would need to buy -R media. +R media won't work, unless you booktype it to DVD-ROM. Your burner must support booktyping though.)

Yes, you can make a 1:1 identical copy using DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 by just doing a ISO Read then a ISO Write.

Check the compatibility of your DVD player with DVD-R +/-, usually if they are compatible a burnt DVD will play just fine.

Yes, you can, DVD Decrypter -> PGCedit, search for guides here to Burn 1:1 copy on a DL using PGCedit

I will try during the course of the day your suggestions. I have a Plextor burner and i assume that it has that capability.

what is a good program for making a DVD into a "avi or mpeg file"

(Auto) Gordian Knot or VirtualDubMod. As a beginner, I'd start with AGK.
