Re-authoring (with a difference)

I'm hoping someone has a simple answer to my question:

Santa brought me a standalone DVD recorder for Christmas. I burned a film onto DVD for a mate of mine but I wanted to remove the commercials which interrupt the film part way through. Now I know with DVDShrink you can choose a start and end frame (which is very handy to get rid of the junk at the beginning and end). Just wondered if there is a way of editing out stuff part way through the film. DVDShrink doesn't seem to allow you to do this.

Another good program is Tsunami DVD Author, though this does remove subtitles and original menus. It is a bit easier than VOBBlanker though. Google it, you can get a free trial.

I've done that using DVDShrink.If you only have 1 commercial(or 1 section)you want to remove, its not that difficult.But if there quite a few its harder to do.

I dont think there is a One click solution available yet for what you are trying to do.

I meant there is no easy way out and if you have multiple commercials it will be laborious.

Thanks to all for your replies.

I tried using DVDShrink via a long winded method. I set up 3 folders and then re-authored the movie using the start/end frame method. In folder 1 I used start frame at the beginning of the movie and used the end frame just before the first set of commercials kicked in. In folder 2 I set the start frame at the end of the commercials and the end frame at the beginning of the 2nd set of commercials. Same process with folder 3. I was then hoping to somehow merge all 3 folders into 1 and hope the movie would just play as 1. Obviously all 3 folders contained files with the same name so I tried renaming the files so they all had different names. When I tested the movie only the first part played, it did not recognise the others. Maybe it’s possible to use this method but I’m not naming the files correctly (I don’t know). Sorry I can’t be more detailed but I’m in work so I’m trying to recall from memory.

I also tried vobblanker, I’m not the most experienced at using it but I couldn’t see a way of using a start/end frame feature. I was able to blank some commercials out (if the section to be blanked contained a commercial only, unfortunately some segments contained the end of the first part of the film and the start of the commercials so I couldn’t get rid of them. If I could choose a start/end frame to blank out then this would work. I don’t know if it’s possible (and I don’t have the knowledge) or if it just isn’t possible.

I’ll take a look at Tsunami DVD Author although I’m not keen on trial software, when the trial runs out you’re screwed. I try to avoid paying for software

Just got back from a biz trip, so only now reading your post.

In DVD Shrink, you can drag the title over 3 times say. Then use start end frames as you did. Let DVD Shrink do its thing and you have a DVD with 3 titles.

Now use the PgcEdit macro called DVD Shrink Remote Buttons, which connects all the titles up and allows you to move between them. You will need the DVD Shrink plugin for PgcEdit, available from the PgcEdit site.
