VOB Blanker v2.1.0.0: Question about VOB Internal Pointer

I just installed v2100. I have a question about the following settings in the "VOB internal pointers" section of the program:

1) Fix always VOB SYNCI/SRI pointers in Titles
2) Fix always VOB SYNCI/SRI pointers in Menu

My question is, should I enable them or leave it off? The default is off. But I was wondering if it's a good idea to turn them on.

These options are very time consuming, so ....

In general, you should check them only if your material does not come from a reliable source..., or if you have done some manual manipulations in the VOB files.

Note that in the case of doing an action (like cut or strip) that needs pointer adjustments, VobBlanker automatically will do it, regardless of these settings.

In this release, I've compared the calculated pointers with the ones produced by MuxMan, so I'm very confident about the exactitude of the calculation. (you can find two very small bug fixes in the changelog related with this, due the comparation with MuxMan)

BugFix: Subs SYNCI pointers: In the case of two subs in the VOBU, was pointing to the second one instead to the first one
BugFix: Audio SYNCI pointers: Sometimes VobBlanker was pointing to the audio pack before the right one.

Briefly, SRI are pointers in the VOB to the next (or previous) bit of video or to bits of video going forward (or backwards) at various time intervals (from 1/2 second to as much as 2 minutes). They need to be pointing at the right bit for playback to be smooth.

SYNCI applies to audio and subpicture packets and says where in this group of pictures is the first one of these packets. It's kind of like a locator for audio and subpic data within the VOBs.

As jsoto says, if you are concerned that the VOB has been badly muxed (and don't be if you use muxman!!!) then you can use VobBlanker to fix these pointers up. It takes a bit of time to look through the VOBs and then go back and fix up these pointers.

If there is no concern, uncheck them and save a little bit of processing time.

Thanks for the help guys. I use VOB Blanker only for "processing" and "blanking" out commercials and stuff. I guess I'll just leave the settings off then.
