How to recreate a multi-title DVD into a single title DVD with free tools

As you can see in the guide's post #3, in the process of creating the new IFO files, in the VTS_01_0.IFO, with the option "Create chapter for each cell" was selected and IfoEdit, in turn, made 15 chapters total for the sample files instead of keeping only original 6 chapters. I, in fact, could have only one chapter for the first cell of each PGC if I selected that option. Since I didn't like the way IfoEdit automatically set up the chapters for me, I used Chapter Edit to clear all the chapter points and created the new ones

Aaah - so I see. You could, of course, re-create the chapters in PgcEdit after IfoEdit had done that but then you wouldn't have been able to demonstrate ChapterEdit.

Thanks Ben, Now all those that I recommend this guide to can just use that until they get the hang of it.

I actually used the 'thread' when I was learning how to do this and was thinking 'Would be cool to have a hardcopy of it'

benbryant--thx for the tutorial. worked great. it was somewhat labor and computer intensive with a dvd-5 worth of data and 50 some chapters but it certainly worked and it was even better to find a tutorial that had all the i's dotted and t's crossed. (except I didn't have to re-label the vob files .vob for some reason) one title with chapters is much better than all titles. too bad shrink doesn't have an automated plug-in of this, just to start it and let it run. thx again for you time in making this guide.

I follow the instructions to edit chapters, this is after joining clips. However everything went ok. The DVD even play on the the software player with the new chapters. However after burning to a DVD-R and try to play in a settop the display mode read "cannot play". OK I tried playing the burn disc in the computer player Power DVD player said "disc cannot play wrong region code" I then burn another disc with dvd files that did'nt run through chapter edit and it played fine both on the settop and computer player. Can someone tell what I'm doing wrong??? I'm new to this DVD authoring.

Has not the region codes been removed? This is strange. If the output in your project folder plays OK, then it seems the burn might be bad. Try again with a RW.

Hi Blutach, Thanks for your response. OK I tried what you suggest, however I got the same result region code protection error. Here is the strange part. I load the files created by chapter edit into ifoedit and select the option to make it region free. Then burn to RW again and whala it played on both the settop and computer player I also am able to navigate with the new chapters. Does chapter edit apply region protection during processing?

I don't think so. Can you refer to the Region Codes Explained FAQ and have a look at Chapter Edit's output files (VIDEO_TS.IFO is what you need to look at) and report back what you find please?

Before running through chapter edit Ifoedit loaded VIDEO_TS.IFO show the following: VMG Category Regional Code Mask Value 0 Value (hex) (00) and Region 1 - 8 enabled.

After running through capter edit of the same video file Ifoedit loaded VIDEO_TS.IFO show the following: VMG Category Regional Code Mask Value 253 Value (hex) (fd) and Region 2 enabled.

So is it possible that chapter edit change the region code.
