    Downmix bitrate for MPEG2 files?

Hi all, I would just like to know if there is any other program other than Vegas 6 for me to be able to lower the bitrate of existing mpeg2 video's.

I currently capture video from my DVB card in mpeg2. Then i use Vegas to render the file to a specific bitrate so that I can put it on to dvd. The problem is that it takes quite some time to render it. And im wondering if there was any other program that can render or change the bitrate a bit faster than what Vegas does?

use an authoring program such as 'tmpgenc dvd author' to turn the mpg files into VOBs.

then run through dvdshrink, burn with imgburn/nero
