Help: WAV to DVD to ISO Conversion

Hi all,

Here's my scenario:

I have a 60-minute long WAV file (think of it as a audio-speach). For my application, I want to convert this into a DVD format (VOBs and IFOs etc), (which will subsequently be converted to an ISO file). Also, I would like to introduce chapters (10min interval) in this DVD - so that I have the flexibility of playing the whole DVD or by each chapter.

Which application/Software will be able to do that or what will you folks recommend?

Remember I do not have/want the video portion of the DVD...as it is not important - it is fine that the TV screen may show a blank image/video.

The reason I need it is because I need to play this audio speach on an equipment which supports the DVD format only - and nothing else. I do not have the flexibility of changing the equipment. All I am looking for is a way of converting this WAV to DVD format.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi buldag,

IMHO, I think that most DVD players or applications which can play DVDs can also play music CDs. Anyway, with your request, you can encode .wav files to .mpg files using TMPGEnc Plus with DVD in NTSC or PAL and with System (Video+audio) selected. Then you can use TMPGEnc DVD Author to author DVD these .mpg files and create chapters with it. These programs come with free trial. Please get them from here:

Thanks for the suggestion. This is almost what i was looking for and it works flawlessly.

Now, here's the twist in the tale:

The DVD that I make via TMPGenc ends up being a DVD-Video (with blank screen)... i.e. a 600MB audio file becomes a 3000MB MPG file which converts to a 3.2GB DVD file folder. While the blank screen is ok, the bloated file size poses a severe capacity problem in my equipment.

Recently I found out that there is this application called Apollo Audio DVD creator which converts an audio file into Audio DVD structure. The advantage of using this is that the size does not increase...i.e. a 600MB source file yields about 650MB DVD... which is good in many ways. However, the problem with this application is that it does not allow you to introduce chapters like the way we do it in TMPGend DVD author. Including chapters at consistent intervals is a necessity for my project.
So the alternative to this was the DVD-lab pro... which allows you the best of all worlds... i.e. make a DVD-Audio and have chapters... however the process is so complicated that it is beyong my means to accomplish that.

Now, I am looking for some other mechanism of comverting my WAV file to a DVD-Audio with chapters.

For adding chapters to the DVD, you can use a tool called Chapter Edit. You can download from the link below:

The 300Mb will fit easily onto a blank DVD. Use an RW if you don't want to keep it forever.

As well, the black frame may be able to be condensed. I would have tried muxing a simple 1/2D1 blank frame (352x576) with Muxman (see link in my signature). Might get the size down for you. Muxman can also make the chapters for you based on celltimes.txt file.

Or, you can use MPEG1. Or MPEG-4.

But, for mine, I'd keep it on a CD as Ben suggested in his first post.
