My R4 version of Shrek has different filesizes

There could have been a number of versions though. Check out the dates ON THE DVD.

Mine are dated 19 Sep 2001 at 2:08pm - 2:39 pm

Also, when you play the original on your PC, does it offer to install the Interactual player?

Hi again...

Showtime plays disk1 better than before. (better than the ifoedit product).

It begins fine, I move the cursor over the menu with the mouse and the underline follows it. I select play and it begins to play. Just where the pigs go into the shed (or toilet is it or whatever) it stops and closes down with "unexpected DVD error".

That's better than I thought - I think I must have inadvertently tried to play disk1 of the ifoedit stuff last time I tested. Sorry. This time there's no mistake.

p.s. manual copy? Don't understand. I'm only doing what i've said.

Put the original dvd in. process with dvddecrypter. start up vobblanker. tell it to use that stuff.

How do you make those screen shots?

My Shrek was made in 2002, it seems.

I've attached a directory listing from the actual original DVD.

I don't like the standard of copies onto one disk. It is worse than SVCD.

Plus I need to learn to do this thing. This will be the first if I ever get it done. Up till now I've only copied small DVD's to one disk. (DVD5 ?)

I didn't read your suggestion correctly. You suggest eliminating things to make it small enough to get on one dvd without compromising quality. Why don't I do that? Ignorance. As soon as I can, I will, it's fine with me.

But my remark about wanting to learn this other thing - splitting - still stands.

Abrogard,here is the setting for configuring Internet Download Manager to download files automatically:

U can type in the file types u want to download automatically.

What will it do? Intercept the stream as it's playing and save to disk?

Because - as I said - I can't provide an URL it'll understand. I can only go there and start the playback.

2 things

1. To upload screenshots, save them in PNG format (use Alt-PrtScreen to take a pic of the active window to the clipboard and then open it MSPAINT) and upload them to www.imageshack.us. Imagshack even has a product which does this automatically for you called Quickshot. Get it from the Imageshack site.

2. The IFOs look fine (though it's obviously the VOBs which are causing grief). On the basis that your DirectX or something might be not be 100%, can you burn disk 1 onto a DVD-RW and test in a standalone player please?

Paglamon, I entered the new file extension but it didn't change anything. Still got no way to tell it to download from that place and it still won't intercept a current stream of audio.

I will burn a dvd as soon as I can. I've installed so many progs today and done this that and the other I might have broken something.

Nero won't play anything now, at all. So I've uninstalled Nero. Then I got hassles from Anydvd. And I had to uninstall Instant CD DVD - though I see it remains in the Start Menu And XP hung for a while.



Your question I failed to answer: no, it doesn't offer to install interactual. I've actually already got interactual on this machine. It's muscled it's way in as default player or something because it started playing Shrek the last time I put it in.

It played it without sound.

So I guess I'll uninstall it, too.

Do that. It's so easy to answer yes when it offers and then yer fcucked. And install Media Player Classic - get it from the link in my signature above. PLay your DVD files processed from VobBlanker on that. I gotta feeling you'll be in business.

But the burn will be the true test. If that is OK, then you know your PC is bloated to bits.

Abrogard,u click on the LISTEN button on the specified webpage(choose real player or wmp).Now a RAM file should download(make sure RAM is mentioned as a file to be automatically downloaded).Open the RAM file using Notepad.It will have the URL.Copy/Paste this URL into IDM.

Well I've got a backup of Shrek. Of sorts. I used menushrink and it did a great job in the simplest fashion imaginable, stripped it down to the bare main feature and that was small enough to get on one disk. So I've got that. It works fine.

That's my main worry off my mind. Now the child can put his little hands on the disk and practice putting it in and out and I don't have to fear we'll soon be without the thing. (which would really upset him).

I will proceed as you suggest with media player classic as a player - I'm always happy to get away from winmediaplayer. I've got to do the whole thing again from the beginning because I've been doing much deleting and uninstalling.

I've got a whole set of 'century of warfare' that I want to backup because they really get handled - friends riffle through them looking for what might interest them and that might only be one feature from the four on a disk. Then out with that disk and riffle again and in with another.

And they've all got nearly 8gig of main feature on them. Menushrink couldn't do anything much. They've got this very, very irritating long intro that plays before every one of the four features on every disk. I'd like to find a way to get rid of it. More expertise with editors I guess.


I've got that "WhenUsave" adware thing infesting me here. AVG reported 9 spyware infected files and this one is very hard to get rid of. I'll be concentrating on cleaning my machine for a while.

Then back into it.

and as I write the 'craptown' thing is still on offer. All you can do it click on 'listen now', which I do. With IDM open and waiting. And all it does is continue to wait. Me too.

Really interested to see how the DVD RW version of disk 1 goes.

As for editing and getting rid of really long intro, you can use VobBlanker for this too. It can blank on the cell (or even the frame) level and has a preview screeen so you know what you're doing. Give it a try!

Well I had to do it all again because I'd wiped everything out. So I dvddecrypted again and then I ran vobblanker on it and made two directories with a disk in each.

Then I ran dvdshrink on them to burn them.

Got 3.7gig or so in one and .9 gig in the other. Very close to being able to get it all on one.

Keeping you in suspense, aren't I? What happened? Well disk1 runs fine on my dvd player. Seems so. It is running now. Hasn't reached the end yet.

I haven't tried disk2 yet.

Disk1 begins with the menu for 'play', 'subtitles', etc, what I suppose is the main menu, and the only thing wrong, if it is wrong, is that the donkey is suspended in space, quivering slightly, above their heads. He should be jumping in arcs behind them, shouldn't he?

BUT: Nero won't play either of them! Begins both and pretty soon finishes with an 'unexpected dvd error'.


I wonder what's wrong with my setup that those 'dvd errors' are created.

Well, it looks like I'm on my way. A false alarm started by the instruction to check the dirs were okay by playing them. We assumed my playing function was good. Not so, it seems.

Donkey hanging in space is a function of MenuShrink. All you get is one frame (that's why it's shrunk - you can select the frame you want in MenuShrink). If you want motion, you pay the price in terms of space.

If you are splitting disks, no need for MenuShrink.

If it plays OK on a standalone but not with Showtime, then we most likely have a problem with your PC. When did stuff play OK with Showtime? What has happened in the intervening period to your PC (software put on etc).

Try a system restore.

Well Paglamon you've certainly got something. But it is not what I want, is it? It is a message saying that their system isn't working.

When I posted the same URL in IDM I got a web page only.

I see that everything there is working fine. And the Craptown thing is still there. And it is working fine because I just listened to some of it again.

But I can't find any way to get IDM to get hold of it. Or any way to get it onto my hard drive.

If you can, then I'd love to hear it.

Thanks for your help. Media player classic plays from the hdd alright so it might be a Nero related problem. Nero freezes up when I ask it to play. I see that MPClassic still has a process running in task manager even though it is closed down. And Wincinemamanager has a process, too, though I've never even used the thing and don't know what it is.....

So maybe it is a conflict with too many media players or something...

I've already reinstalled Nero... but maybe do it again.... It does the burning okay...

I explored vobblanker a little more and found that reauthoring stuff you mentioned, where I can cut out stuff at the beginning and end that I don't want. I'm going to jump into a little of that processing and see how i do.

p.s. Well... I found it last night and used it. But i'm damned if I can find it again. Where's that screen that shows two little screens, one for playing forward from the beginning and one for playing back from the end? So's you can cut off the stuff don't want? I can't find it again, or any mention of it in the help screens.

p.p.s. It's alright. I've found it. It wasn't in vobblanker at all, it's in menushrink. excellent little thing.
