    .avi to dvd problems

Hello, new user here. Great resource! Ive already learned alot in a hour or so here!

    here is my question.

I had a 1.3gb .avi file that I wanted to turn into a dvd

I used the avi2dvd program to do the conversion, and it took a LONG time, but eventually worked.

once i finally had a viable set of dvd files according to the program,

I opened up and created a simple dvd menu (just a background picture, and start film button) and from there, took the proper steps to create burnable files.

however, now that the disc is burnt. it will not play in the dvd player i use (happens to be an xbox), but i can play the stuff fine on my computer...

I already deleted the source avi files to free up space,

is there anything i can do?

    thanks!

Actually, since I am already requesting help with that issue, I have just discovered a new one.

As previously stated, my avi that i authored into a dvd will not play on my xbox.

however, several of my owned movies that I am trying to back up, have played on the xbox just fine.

I just burnt a copy of the chronicles of narnia however, and once again, it works on the CPU just fine, but will not work at all on the xbox

I used ANYDVD (most recent) and dvd shrink to rip it

and powerISO to burn the ISO to the dvd.

    any ideas?

I am really not looking forward to "Testing" all of my movies for backup and losing expensive dvdrs on half of them!!!

    Help plz!

Please try the DVDs with different DVD players (especially the ones can play DVD +/-R) to see if they work

video game players suck at playing back-ups, use a regular set-top dvd player.

outside of setting the book-type to dvd-rom (if your drive supports it) i don't know what else you can do to help your situation other than buying a dvd player.

What exactly does setting the book type to dvd rom do?

i know my drive supports dvd ram... not exactly sure what that does for me either, but perhaps it helps...

and how would i go about setting this book type thing?

that may help with the xbox issue? without damaging its use in other players?

                  thanks for the help!

Actually, i think i may have stumbled onto my own solution

by using a different ISO burning program, the ripped image worked fine on another disk.

i figured i could risk losing an extra disk this once to figure this crap out.

so... that problem is solved... but can anyone chime in on my original question on the first post of the thread about avi to dvd conversion and burning please?
