Ripping a DVD to DVD

Hey guys,

I have a Hard drive recorder for my tv that includes a DVD burner. I put a TV show on a DVD-RW and my goal is to rip it to my computer, remove the commercials and burn it to a DVD-R. Is there a way to do this fairly easily without losing quality from reencoding?

P.S. I ripped the burned DVD to VOB files, what's the best way to edit them to something more manigable, say an mpeg or something

Not sure what you are asking, but if you have a DVD recorder with a hard drive, then the normal procedure is record the TV signal to the hard drive on the DVD recorder, then edit the hard drive with the software that came with the DVD recorder to remove the commercials, then after you have the hard drive edited like you want, burn to DVD+R media on the DVD recorder and play the disk in a standalone DVD player or on your DVD recorder.

My ilo DVD recorder has a 80gb hard drive and works with mpeg2 and has been hacked for region free and macrovision removal.

If your files are in DVD format now (IFO, VOB, BUP), use VobBlanker to get ridda commercials. It can cut on a frame basis. Or even DVD Shrink in re-author mode.

here's what I'm trying to do

I taped a 2 hour show (commercials and all) on monday. What I'd like to do is #1. Split that file in to two different videos (it was two new episodes back to back) #2. Remove the commercials #3. Add a menu #4. Burn it perminantly to a DVD-R. I have software that will take and mpeg or mpeg 2 and make a DVD out of it, but I can't figure out a way to go from vob to mpeg

VOBs are MPEGs. I have no idea why you'd wanna make it an MPEG if you already have VOBs and IFOs.
