Import Probs w/Premiere Pro

I recently converted some VOB files to AVI format using AutoGK. Now, I’m trying to import the AVI into Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0, but Premiere does not seem to recognize the file, because nothing happens. I’m just getting the “importing files” box with no progress.

The AVI is 2GB and the video compression is XviD. I’m not sure if my problem is Premiere not recognizing XviD or if the file size is too big or what… the AVI plays fine with Windows Media Player, so I know the file is not corrupt.

Any help would definitely be appreciated.

IMHO, converting from DVD to Xvid and then open it with Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0, you will use up a lot of time for encoding and reduce the quality. You can use DGIndex and VFAPIConvEN to frameserve the DVD to Adobe Premiere Pro. Just make sure not to move or change the files names or locations during frameserving

ok, so you suggest start from scratch with new software then, eh? I was definitely hoping to figure out why Premiere is not recognizing the file rather than spending additional time and money on new software.

If I don't receive any other replies/advice, then I'll check to see if the programs you recommend are available as share/freeware.

It's not only time but also the maintaining of quality and better method of conversion. DGIndex and VFAPIConvEN are some of the best freewares that you won't have to spend an extra penny for them

Guide was helpful ben, but I don't like how it took out the audio and made a separate WAV file. When I dropped them both into Premiere and played them simutaneously, the a/v was off. Even after adjusting and getting the a/v in synch from the beginning, they were off again 1/4 of the way through.

I also didn't like how these programs don't let you pull the main movie only. I don't want to have to sit and edit out the extras (del scenes, subtitles, various menus, etc.) manually.

The quality of the original AVI that I made with DVD Shrink & AutoGK is outstanding. I just don't understand (back to my original question) why Premiere won't read that particular AVI.

Oh well, unless you have any other ideas, I'll just have to do some additional research.

To select the main movie only, you have to rip the DVD properly. It's too late by the time you get to DGIndex. That can also account for your AV sync problems.
