- PGCEDIT 7.3 - I want to start DVD with Scene Selection Menu

Hi

I've enclosed an image of the DVD I'm trying to re-do in PGCEDIT. Let me know how to do each task (1-7) stating when to use PGCEDIT, VOBBLANKER + anything else. Do I need JUMP2PGC as well?

The movie in question is MONKEYBONE DVD Region 1. Also want to do the same with other R1 DVDs - if you have any of the following, please reply: Garfield The Movie, Son of the Mask, Scooby Doo 2, Fat Albert The Movie, Ultraviolet - Unrated, Resident Evil 1 + 2, Anaconda 1 +2, Spider-Man 1 + 2, The Punisher, Tomb Raider 2.

What commands do I need to make / edit?




I've seen some guides on PGCEDIT by BLUTACH, 2COOL and JEANL among others but I don't know which will save DISCSPACE. I think JEANL said on hers how to skip/jump but not remove/hide stuff.

I tried to use DVDREMAKE PRO v3.4 but it keeps DISSAPPEARING (I think you call it CRASHING!?!?) when I click of certain parts of the DVD TREE. Same happens with v3.5.

Well those parts are usually PGCs in MENU EN (main movie plus other parts of the DVD TREE). I dunno why! This is kinda annoying as I wanna edit the menus.

I only managed to HIDE/DISABLED the audio / subtitle tracks that I don’t want plus the FBI warnings & some extras. That’s about it.

If it doesn’t crash, when I test Export or Export DVD, the first thing that plays is the 1st movie. When I press menu button, no menus (main or sub-menus)!

That's why I wanna learn PGCEDIT but still confused by various guides.


I did try to do it myself using PGCEDIT and here are some MORE screenshots [MONKEYBONE_02 to 06]. I think I cracked Task 1 – 6 except I didn’t know to do chop off a bit of beginning of chapter 1 (studio logo) & remove end credits. I tested the revised DVD (still from the HDD) in POWERDVD and it DID start with Scene Selection, chosen audio & subtitle track was OK. However, the RESUME FILM button/link only stopped POWERDVD playing (not CRASH!).

Also out of curiosity, I opened the revised DVD in DVDREMAKE PRO and BOY did I screw up bad! A lot of error messages & almost everything in the DVD TREE is RED! See screenshot MONKEYBONE_07 (coming in next post, 5 pics per post only).

Big query.

Task 1 - Set a breakpoint on the chapter menu (Left click on it and Ctrl-Shift-T). Start trace mode and just run to the chapter menu. You may go through some other menus first, don't worry, just keep going. When you get there,

PGC - Jump to PGC Upon DVD Insert


Task 2 - Kill playback (Ctrl-K) of the last 3 PGCs in VMGM. Convert them to dummies. Afterwards, run the DVD through VobBlanker (process menus only) to get rid of the unreferenced cells.


Tasks 3 and 5- Kill playback, but in this case PgcEdit will ask you to select a button that you want to be pushed (select the main menu)


Task 4 - This is a job for VobBlanker. Guide to cutting and stripping on site. Finish your other tasks first.


Task 6 - Position yourself in any PGC in VTST 2 (eg VTST 2, 10). Press Ctrl-Del. Replace all titles by a blank frame. Save DVD. (Ctrl-S)


Task 7 - Not so easy. Will require knowledge of VM commands. DVD Remake Pro makes a new VTS with its menu in it. Essentially, you wioll need ot reprogram the commands that DVDRMP puts in to jmp to chapter menus and not root menus. Finish your other stuff and return and then we'll fix that one up.

For task 7, I guess replacing the menu button command by a JumpSS to the Title Menu should work. Do it after you have created the compilation with DRM.

I needed to do this with my last two backups. I couldn't work it out. I sat here for an hour trying to work it. This might help me a bit.

Well, I haven't tried it, but since the DVD selection menu created by DRM is normally called by pressing the Title Menu button on the remote, I guess using the command that does the same thing should have the same effect. And this command is exactly, from any menu domain:
[30 06 00 00 00 42 00 00] 1 (JumpSS) Jump to VMGM Title menu

If you want to return to the DRM menu when a title has finished playing, you should use this command, as the first post command of the title:
[30 08 00 00 01 42 00 00] 1 (CallSS) Call the VMGM Title menu, resume cell 1

Pgcedit, Vobblanker &amp; Dvdremake Pro

Hi guys.

Thanks for the advice.

Will try BLUTACH'S steps & let you know how I get on later.

But how will I know if I did them right? Unlike DVDREMAKE PRO, PGCEDIT has indication of DVD size reduction or let me know if I screwed up (like DRM PRO's red items in the DVD Tree). I haven't tried VOBBLANKER yet at this point.

If I did use PGC & VOBBLANKER correctly, there should be NO red items when I import the amended DVD into DVDREMAKE PRO [for merging purposes], right?

Just for a laugh, I've enclosed a shot I took of DVDREMAKE PRO I used for the MONKEYBONE DVD AFTER using PGCEDIT BEFORE I got BLUTACH advice.

I went though Task 1 – 6 with PGCEDIT then VOBBLANKER [rather than back & forth between the 2!] and here are some comments & questions:

You said to Kill Playback for last 3 PGCs in VMGM but what about the first 2 PGCs? There are 5 PGCs in VMGM originally. So I killed the first 2 PGCs aswell.<O</O

I saved IFO <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comAS</st1:State> but overwriting the original files in the MONKEYBONE VIDEO_TS folder.


Task 2 with VOBBLANKER.
Selected a different folder for output.

Open up the overwritten IFO file in VOBBLANKER.
Tick Process menu only, leaving other boxes UNTICKED.
Click Process button at the bottom.

I did the unwanted audio & subtitle removal thing (stripping) by ticking the relevant Delete boxes.

Only the original DVD there was 5 audio streams & 2 subtitle streams.

I chose the 2<SUP>nd</SUP> audio track (English 2.0 DD) while the default 1<SUP>st</SUP> audio track on the original DVD is English 5.1 DD.

I chose the English subtitle track but got rid of the other one (Spanish).

Then I did the cutting out the junk from Ch1 & removing Ch22 + C23 [End credits + Studio logo].

The movie’s length was edited the way I wanted it but ALL the audio + subtitle streams remained.

Anyway, I put that 1<SUP>st</SUP> VOBBLANKER output into VOBBLANKER & created a 2<SUP>nd</SUP> output folder for VOBBLANKER.

This time I just sorted the audio + subtitle stream the way I want it the following occurred.

The movie’s default audio track was 5.1 DD but since this was removed, this is total silence. I expected the only audio I chose 2.0 DD to be the default and ONLY audio track. I can still see the 4 audio tracks I got rid off when choosing Display Info despite these 4 being total silence.

It’s similar with subtitles- No more Spanish subtitle but I can still see the details when choosing Display Info in POWERDVD.

On the good side, the RESUME FILM function works and I did reduce the DVD a lot!

Just for a laugh, I put this 2<SUP>nd</SUP> VOBBLANKER output in DVDREMAKE PRO to see how much I screwed up; see Screenshot below.

Task 2 with PGCEDIT

Why? Had I wanted you to kill them, I woulda said so. You have now made 2 PGCs with buttons execute a selected button automatically every time the PGC is entered (eg when title menu is pressed on the remote) and have taken options away from yourself and perhaps ruined the nav.

Unless you want these buttons to do what you have selected every time, I would recommend starting over.

Task 4 with VOBBLANKER

You have probably kept the directors comments and thrown away the movie soundtrack. Have you listened to the audio stream to determine which is which? Usually, 5.1 is the movie and 2.0 is commentary. But sometimes, there's a stereo movie soundtrack as well, so I could be wrong here.

Cutting and stripping need to be done in separate steps as you have observed.

If you are not happy with the result, you need to restore all the files in the original VobBlanker_backup folder and start again.

Those streams are simply placeholders - what you are seeing in PowerDVD and DVD Remake Pro. To fix them in PgcEdit, go to DVD - Fix Number of Streams. Answer yes to every suggestion. Save.

Task 6

Take care! Kill playback modifies only the VM commands to skip the playback. This function does not actually remove the video material automatically, and therefore you cannot regain the space on disc just by using Kill Playback.

In this case, since you don't want to keep anything in the VTST 2 domain, it is simpler to use "Blank out all VTST titles". The Blank Out function combines Kill Playback with the automatic removal of the video contents. All cells of all PGCs of the current domain are replaced by a tiny black cell. (In practice, the VOB files of the domain are replaced by a small 10KB file.) In the menu domain, you can even remove the VOB file completely.
This function is easy to use, and very fast, but everything in the domain is killed at once.

If you want to selectively kill some PGCs of the domain, but leave some of them untouched, you have to use Kill Playback. When you kill playback, a dialog pops up to ask if you want to remove the references to the VOB cells (in the case of a menu) or to replace the cells by a tiny black cell (in the title domains.) If you want to regain the space used by the original video contents, you must answer yes, but it's not sufficient: the cells are not removed immediately. You have to process the domain through VobBlanker or FixVTS to completely remove the unreferenced cells.

I might have this wrong, but it looks like all he would have to do is re-author with DVDShrink, selecting the output to be DVD9 in options and dump the unwanted audio and subpics, then output to create files. He should then be able to go in with at least PGCEdit and edit out the studio logo and credits at that point.

TO BLUTACH

I think I will start again but before doing so, here is a scan of what I can see with POWERDVD.

As you can see, I managed to rid off the unwanted audios & subtitle, but POWERDVD can still detect where they were!

So I want POWERDVD to show only 1 English Audio (the 2.0) & English subtitle.

So is this to be fixed in PGCEDIT, VOBBLANKER or BOTH?

- You get to keep audio & subtitles of your choice plus the chapter points but it’s a shame Re-Authoring loses all menus!

- You gotta re-create the menus but I can deal with this. I think you lose all subtitles when importing the DVDSHRINK output above … unless I’m wrong! On the good side, I think the chapter points stays.

So let's do a re-cap:
To Task 1,2,3,5,6 with PGCEDIT. I assume task 6 is the same as blank all PGCs in VTST 2 (the bonus features items).

When I'm done, do I "SAVE IFO AS" in the same folder as the original DVD files (i.e. overwriting) or create a new folder?

To do Task 4 with VOBBLANKER. Open up the IFO file saved from PGCEDIT. Do each process SEPARATELY, which may mean create new folders each time.
- run the DVD through VobBlanker (process menus only) to get rid of the unreferenced cells. Process & saved the output in the VOBBLANKER Output 1 folder.
- Close & restart VOBBLANKER. Open up the output from the VOBBLANKER Output 1 folder. Do "cutting" thing. Process into VOBBLANKER Output 2 folder.
- Close & restart VOBBLANKER. Open up the output from the VOBBLANKER Output 2 folder. Do "stripping" thing. Process into VOBBLANKER Output 3 folder.

Still under Task 4, go back PGCEDIT with the final VOBBLANKER output & go to DVD - Fix Number of Streams. Answer yes to every suggestion. Save.

Errr ... are the above plans ok?
