I think I've pretty much got the handle on ripping, shrinking and burning DVDs.

Depending on the strength of the protection I usually try with DVDShrink and if that doesn't work I go with DVDDecrypter and if that doesn't work I go with DVDFab Decrypter (that one's never failed me yet, but it's real slow).

I've used RipIt4Me a few times but it doesn't always work.

Then I shrink, use IfoEdit and then burn with Nero.

Now I'm wanting to experiment with editing. I've looked at PgcEdit, VobEdit and VobBlanker. So far I like VobBlanker cause you can see previews of what you are doing. The other ones I just don't understand what all the contents mean.

I've only experimented with VobBlanker once so far, with not too good of results. I didn't know you couldn't use the source folder as the destination folder also. So, I ended up with the entire DVD still, except one of the previews had no audio.

I tried this with a DVD I had already shrunk and burned. I ripped it and tried to edit it in it's compressed state. Could that be a problem also?

What I need to know is the correct order in which to apply each program to get the desired results.

Should I edit it after ripping but before shrinking or what?

Seems like you take a long time to do some things and others are entirely unnecessary.

1. RipIt4Me does it all in 1 step and is being updated all the time - continue to try it. It really is extremely good.

2. There's no need to use IfoEdit after DVD Shrink. In fact, DVD Shrink calls Ner0 to burn.

3. VobEdit is dangerous unless you know what you are doing - editing takes place immediately in the VOB and may make problems for you if you mess up even 1 number.

4. A very good single editor is DVD Remake Pro, but it is not free. It is VERY intuitivie. A freeware solution would be a combination of PgcEdit and VobBlanker, which will do most of what you want. Do continue experiementing - that's the way to learn. Plus, read the guides. There are lots of them.

5. Usually editing is done before shrinking and must be done after ripping. You get more bang for your shrinking buck then.

6. Consider also MenuShrink, also to be used before shrinking.

BTW, why would you want to "demux"? Or should that be for another thread?

To demux is to split the VOB into its elementary streams (the MPEG2 video, the AC3, DTS, PCM, MP2 audio and the subtitles). You might want to demux if you wish to edit these streams.

Many apps exist these days which can edit inside the VOB itself and the need for demuxing has become less in the last little bit.

One thing I can think of is if you wish to add an audio and/or subtitle stream. You need to demux and then remux.
