    Movies for Europe

Sorry if this is an inappropriate post. Is there any reason why I can't create a disk in the US on a region free system and be able to play back on a stand alone player (assuming the player is compatible) in Europe?
Any Help would be much appreciated.

If you have your media (avi's and mpeg's) stored on your computer, you can create svcd's or vcd's for PAL or NTSC using TMPGEnc.

Batman thanks for the reply. Which format can be read from a stand alone player? I am not sure if it supports SVCD and I dont have access to it.
        TIA

You would have to check to see if the dvd player supports vcd's or svcd's----most of Europe is in PAL, but you'll still want to check.

I dont have access to the player, it is in the UK. I am a little confused though.. can I make a dvd in the same format as the store bought copies or do they have to be burned in mpeg/avi etc? Sorry for the all the questions.

Since it is UK it is most likely PAL format.

You can make a dvd, however they are expensive because you will require a dvd writer, (your dvd player must support dvd-r or dvd-rw etc... discs, you'll have to purchase the appropriate player as there are four differing formats).

As Setarip pointed out, it would be much easier for you to start with cd's (provided you have a cd-rw drive). If they don't work, you'll be less dissapointed. You should check whether or not the dvd player in which you want to play the media is VCD and/or SVCD compatible (many older players simply aren't).

Finally, for the purpose of creating vcds or svcds please visit vcd-help.com, the website contains an easy to follow, indepth tutorial.

              Hope this helps
