TMPGEnc - VCD-DVD codec problem I think

I am using TMPGenc 2.54a (tried the previous versions also) I recently upgraded to XP on my system but before that I had no problems with loading up any MPG's (but i had over the years installed so many codecs it was a mine field). Now I can load some files up but not others. My goal is to load a VCD MPG up but XP says a fault ocured and closes it down. As I say some other MPG's (dont think they are VCD) load fine. Is this an Layer 2 problem ? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, TMPGEnc is incompatible with divx 5.0

Can you play these mpegs?

Yes, but dont have and DIVX codec's installed yet

try othersoftware such as Easy cd creator, nero...

Also sure it must be a codec as I have the same problem on another (older) PC with Win98se (as the newer one was) but I never realy used this one for encoding movies

Do they convert video/audio streams ? or do the streams have to be in the correct format already?

Just installing Nero (latest version) and the media program that comes with it,but dont have easy cd creator (YET )

Been up all night trying all sorts, Nero wont work (might have to buy the SVCD/Mpeg-2 plug). I was wondering, can win98 see and write to an NTFS hard disk (as they can handle larger than 4 gig files-which in truth was my real problem to start with).
I formated a 60 gig HDD to NTFS but windows 98 won't asign a drive letter? although partition magic 7 sees it fine? (have loads of DV tapes and it woud be nice to me able to work with files longer than 15mins)
