Hi,

I am thinking of doing the following for a movie:

- Rip AC3 audio from the DVD
- Convert AC3 audio to DTS, increase surrounds by 3 DB.
- Mux it back to to the original ripped source.

Now I know how to rip and convert the audio, the only part I am not confident about it is muxing it back to the original ripped source and which tool is good at it (muxman??) and then how would the DVD menu's reflect it, and what should I change in them to reflect and play DTS audio.

Muxman is exactly what you need.

The menu will probably be fine (as long as it says English). Ensure the stream attribute is 0x89 for DTS and not 0x80 for AC3.

Will I be able to remove/overwrite the AC3 audio with DTS or do I need to add a new stream, i have not used muxman, so I am not familiar how it works.

Just add it in the same position where the AC3 was.

Try it - you can not break anything.

Ensure at least 1 AC3 stream is on the DVD somewhere (a menu is OK) for compliancy.

Hum, IMO, you must have at least one AC3 or LPCM stream (or no sound at all) in each domain. A DTS stream alone is not sufficient, since you must have a DTS decoder to be able to use it. Same is true for MPG audio.

However, if you have a DTS decoder, even with only a DTS track, your DVD will probably be playable. But remember that it is not compliant and it will be rejected by some players.

I have run into another hurdle, how to determine the Bits per sample (Bit depth=8/16/24) of the AC3 audio on the source, so that I can keep it same during the conversion also. I couldnt see an option to mux the whole Video with the audio (VOB with DTS) in muxman.

Still trying to search though
