PgcEdit Restore Backup Shortcoming

I'm not trying to down a Fantastic program.

I've just been wondering this for a while. When you push the [Restore Backup] button in PgcEdit you get this...



Unless I'm missing something, this means I have to close PgcEdit, copy the VOB's from the backup folder and paste to working folder, then reload PgcEdit.

This makes the Restore function kinda useless doesn't it?

No, just copy/move the VOBs back in and Ctrl-R to reload.

I have made it that way because it is not easy to guess what is the best restore mode. If PgcEdit moves the VOBs from the backup folder, they will obviously be missing for a subsequent restore. And since copying a VOB file can take a very long time, I think it is better to let the user decide exactly what to do.
Also, PgcEdit is mainly an IFO editor, and it is relatively rare to have VOB files in its backup folder.

The Restore Backup option is designed to be used in conjunction with the incremental backups when the user does frequent modifications to the IFOs and save them to test with a software player. In this case, undoing the latest modifications is easy and fast.

Hmmm, I thought PgcEdit was both an IFO and VOB editor. I use it to do just about everything.

And I always have VOB's in my backup folder.

Well, at the origin, PgcEdit was only an IFO editor. Now, PgcEdit can do some simple tasks on VOBs, such as removing them (easy! ) adding a tiny black cell, or, more important, editing the menus. It doesn't demux or remux, though. You cannot delete, strip or cut cells or streams, you cannot regenerate the VOB internal pointers, etc...

Indeed, if you use some specific functions (blanking, editing a menu...) some VOB files are modified. And in conjunction with FixVTS or VobBlanker, you can use PgcEdit to do almost anything. And it is true that I use PgcEdit often to modify the VOBs. Maybe I'll change the warning dialog to let the user choose what to do with the backed-up VOBs. Thanks anyway for the suggestion!

PgcEdit is a really fantastic prog. The more I use it the more I find that it's capable of. I've used it to move previews from the Extras up front to before the movie starts, added my own movie clips before and after the main movie menu, ect.

I know it has it's limitations (no prog can do it all), but it can do a LOT. I'm still finding new things.

One of the really useful things is Tools → FixVTS (current domain). This does work on VOBs of course. I also have VobBlanker set up as a tool for stripping streams.

FixVTS in [Tools] doesn't work for me (hasn't for a while), but the FixVTS under [Plugins] -PSL2 ARccOS - FixVTS (current domain) works the same as the one in [Tools] used to.

I couldn't get VobBlanker setup right in [Tools]. It opens VobBlanker empty. I must not have the right arguements set. I haven't tried VobBlanker under [Plugins] yet.

I do have [Run in Nero Showtime] setup in [Tools]. Comes in pretty handy.

Note that you cannot launch FixVTS from the Tools menu if no DVD is loaded. You should also try to move FixVTS.exe to another folder, to force PgcEdit to ask its path again the next time you launch it.

BTW, I've modified the Restore Backup function. If there are some VOBs in PgcEdit_backup, you have now the option to move them back, copy them, not restore them (but still restore the IFOs) or cancel completely the operation.

I moved FixVTS to my desktop and when I tried to launch it from PgcEdit I still got this...
