    DVD authoring using Xvid files

Stupid thing says I am logged in and when I submit, it says I am not logged in...had a whole lot of stuff typed and now it is gone....

Trying to make a DVD with some episodes from Dark Skies series.

I made a bunch of disks from Battlestar Galactica for season 2, all the originals were encoded with Xvid. I could cut 5 episodes to disk using DVD MovieFactory, complete with a full menu and thumbnails.

Unfortunately, I no longer have those BSG files to compare the differences to the Dark Skies episodes. I do remember the BSG was encoded with 720x480, so I didn't have to change anything, just dropped the files into MovieFactory and was pretty much done.

Problem is, the Dark Skies files are not the same...nowhere near the same...even though they are using Xvid, that is where the similarities end. I can barely fit one episode onto disk.

I've tried reencoding the files, resizing the video, using the lowest quality, whatever I could to change the file size....this I could do...I took one that was 750MB (two episodes stuck as a single file) and reduced it to 400MB, but still, when I drop it into MovieFactory, it explodes to exceed a standard DVD...I must've done this 30-40 times now, trying different settings in Win AVI to reencode it and nothing seems to make any difference. Even taking sound out of the equation makes no difference.

Hopefully someone here will know what I am trying to do and point me in the right direction...it's getting frustrating. And if this thing makes me login again, I'm gonna scream....

    Try AVI2DVD or TMPGEnc Plus.

Nope, not even close to what I asked.

I wanted to know how to make the file 1/4 (at least) the size when I drop it into MovieMaker. The files I had from the BSG series AVI and all I did was drop them into MovieMaker and I could fit up to 5 episodes onto the disk. The files I am trying to work with now, no matter what I do to them, I get a huge file and can only fit one onto a disk....not what I want.

There is something I am missing in the encoding process...I am not interested in another way to make a DVD, I am interested in HOW TO REDUCE THE FILE SIZE ON THE DISK.

You can create your DVD( which is oversized). Then use DVD Shrink to bring it down to your desired size.
Or you can set the bitrate while authoring the DVD so that the output size is within your required range.
What is the total length of the videos?
