To Back Up Movie Only with no menus

Hi

If I want to Back Up Movie Only with no menus at all (i.e. I insert DVD in player & the movie starts straight away but includes chapter divisions & selected audio/subtitle streams), what's best way to do this?

Most would probably say DVDSHRINK or NERO RECODE 2.

Others may say use VOBBLANKER to blank everything except the movie.

But which method gives the best VIDEO quality?

I heard that there are software that can do this with better video quality output than DVDSHRINK but I can't remember which one(s).

Ripit4me has a movie only option.
So does DvdFab Decrypter.

The only programs that can change the video quality is DVD Shrink and others. The rest of the programs in your list will only rip or remove stuff and that do not change the video quality.

If you use DVDFab Decrypter to rip the movie only, removing the audio and subtitles you don't require, there are many cases in which you don't even need to use DVD Shrink to compress your movie..thus resulting in a higher quality backup. I'm sure RipIt4Me would yield similar results.

So is it true that if I do a MOVIE ONLY rip (re-author mode) but uncompressed (i.e. full 100%), the video quality still goes down a bit [how much I dunno!] because it still counts as Re-ENCODING?

I just heard from somewhere before, dunno if it's true.

Are you really sure? DVDShrink analyzes and process the VOBs anyway, even if no compression is needed.
IMO, it's true that that should not modify the quality of the video, but some things are modified in the VOBs, as some pointers, for example, are recalculated.

I think in this instance we are talking about going straight from DVDFab or RI4M to Imgburn when no compression is needed...at least that's the way I do it.

As usual r0lZ, you are precise and correct. I should have said the quality of the video stream is the same byte for byte. Things like Navpacks will change, especially if streams are stripped. However, in an umcompressed run, DVD Shrink does no "deep analysis"; it simply either strips (mock or otherwise) and outputs.

....and how about going directly to your burn engine, skipping the DVD Shrink all together?
