Converting a Title to 16:9

OK, I did another one of those PAL to NTSC and title replace projects.

This one, the special features (titles 2 and 3) are in the VTS_01_1 titleset, so when I set the movie to widescreen, the 4:3 special features also get set to them.

Can I change that, or break up the VOBs?

You can either do a conversion to 16:9 in the VOBs or

1. Import the titleset again in PgcEdit. This time make it 4:3
2. Blank titles 2 and 3 in VTS1
3. Blank the now redundant title in the newly imported VTS
4. Re-author the menus/VMGM commands to get you to the new titleset.

What do you mean by step 3?

And if I blank them, wouldn't that make them not work?

The other option maybe is if I add black bars to the side, then make it auto pan&scan, that way it would truly be a 16:9 disc.

After step 1, you will have 2 VTSs containing the same thing. The first will be 16:9, the imported 4:3

You do not need the 4:3 ones in the 16:9 titleset and vice versa.

Oh, when I re-merge with VOBBlanker will they still be part of the VTS_01 VOBset?

How do I blank titles? All I can find is to blank the entire domain.

Trace the title with the preview on and click on blank cell at the appropriate time. Or kill playback of the whole title and say yes to PgcEdit's offer to blank them. When you are done, run FixVTS over the domain.

Obviously, if you blank something, it's to bypass the playback.

There are 4 methods to blank something.

1. Blanking at the PGC level
Just select the PGC you want to blank. Verify with the preview. Then, Kill Playback, and accept the option to blank the cells (or to convert the PGC to dummy in a menu domain.)

2. Blanking a whole domain
There is also a function to blank ALL PGCs of the current domain. Obviously, you must be sure that you don't want to keep something in the domain. The advantage of this method is that the VOB file is immediately removed and replaced with a tiny file (10KB), or removed completely in the menu domain.

Those functions are available via the right-click contextual menu.

3. Blanking at the cell level using the preview
The third method is explained by blutach: Run trace mode (with preview), and tick the "Blank this cell" checkbox in the preview window. When the PGC has finished playing, if all cells are blanked, you will be prompted to kill playback. Accept.

4. Blanking at the cell level using the PGC Editor
You can also replace any cell of a specific PGC from the PGC Editor. Click on the VOB/Cell ID button of the cell you want to blank, and use the option to replace it by a tiny black frame. If you have already blanked another cell in the same domain, you can reuse the same black frame. As this method is a bit more complex, I suggest you familiarize yourself with the other methods first.

Methods 1, 3 and 4 require using FixVTS or VobBlanker to regain the disc space.

It is possible to use those methods on a title or a menu. If you use them on a menu, you can also convert the PGC to dummy, therefore removing completely the VOB cells (or the whole VOB file with method 2).

If the menu has buttons, you will have to specify which menu button must be simulated. Anyway, don't do that without knowing the implications!

OK, but how do I put those titles back?

What do you mean? You don't have to extract them to process them with PgcEdit. Work directly on your rip folder.
