Subtitles are there, but won't display...

Hi,
I have a DVD with English and Thai subtitles. The English subtitles display ok in both my DVD Player and in Cyberlink's Power DVD software player.
However, I can't get the Thai subtitles to display at all. I can toggle between English and Thai subtitles via my DVD remote control, but when Thai is selected, they just don't appear on screen. (They don't appear in any of my software players too).
I know the Thai subtitles as there, because I can see them in DVD Shrink, and when I open up the VOBs in DVDSubEdit I can read them.
It would appear the DVD is maybe not authored correctly? Is there any way to edit the DVD to get them to display?

With PgcEdit, verify that they are correctly defined in Domain Stream Attributes and in the PGC of the main title.
Also, with the menu editor, verify that the correct color scheme is defined, and, in the color scheme, that the opacity of the colors is not full transparent (except for the background, of course.)

There are several problems in Domain Stream Attributes of VTS 1. 3 audio streams are defined instead of 2. Same for the number of subpics. But that's probably not why you cannot see the subpics.
Therefore, the problem is probably in the color schemes. Verify them with the PGC Editor...

Also, with DVDSubEdit, verify that the thai subpics has the ID 0x21. If it's different, you need to modify the first number in the subpic stream 1 button in the PGC Editor to match the real ID.

Was there other languages on the disc??

Shrink has a preference of "logical remapping of substeams". Leave it unticked if you are keeping the menus. If you are doing a movie only rip, then you can keep them.

BTW: PgcEdit has a Shrink plugin that will check for this condition of whether you tick this option or not.

Hi r0lZ and Gary.
On further investigation, I've found that the Thai subtitles are actually there, but they only display when the English characters in the film speak. For the other 95% of the film when the characters are speaking Thai, there are no Thai subtitles, only English subtitles. I guess this makes sense, since its a Thai film. So that's why I missed them. Sorry about that!
Thai films I've done before with Thai subtitles had them present throughout, so I guess that's what threw me on this. Will check more carefully next time.
On opening up the DVD in PGCEdit it did indeed find the 3 audio streams error you pointed out, and a couple of others, one in the VMGM/VTSI-MAT table and another concerning the no of subpic streams. I will allow PGCEdit to fix these for a more compliant DVD and see how it turns out.

After fixing the stream attributes with PgcEdit, you will probably not notice many changes when playing the DVD, except that you will not see any more the useless empty entries in the audio and subpic selection menus of your player. Some players can also get confused by those empty entries.
