    I've verified, and my version of this DVD has not the problem. It is published by Gaumont (a french company), not by Sony.
    Everything is really encoded in 720x576. This means that there are several different PAL encodings of the same film. You got the bad one!

      PgcEdit uses the info in VTS_01_0.IFO (which theoretically takes precedence.) The info in VIDEO_TS.IFO is redundant, and is ignored by most players. But it is not surprising that avisynth uses the info in the VOBs, as it loads them directly, and doesn't read the IFOs at all.

      Don't forget that PgcEdit is (mainly) an IFO editor, not a VOB editor. IMO, it's not its job to patch the VOBs. Anyway, DVD Patcher works well to do that.
