DVD Subtitle Font Change

Hi folks,

Does anyone know of a "Freeware" that can change the "Font Size" within a VOB!?!?

I have a Martial Art DVD that the Fonts are so small that it is making me go blind and I want to redo it and increase the Font Size only and nothing else.

I looked at DVDSubEdit ... but I don't think this one does it!!!

if you can down load the sub then change the font from that sub

It's possible, but not really easy.
Note that you can do it only if the main movie is alone in its own VTS. That's not always the case!

Hers is a short guide (using only free tools):

• Demux the original movie using PgcDemux. At this point, verify if there are several PGCs in the dropdown list. If there is only one PGC, you're lucky, and you can continue. Otherwise, sorry, but the solution explained here doesn't work. If you continue, you have to demux all streams. Also, don't forget to output the celltimes.txt file, needed if you want to recreate the right chapter points.
• You have to convert the original subpics to text (.SRT or .SUB format) using SubRip. [EDIT: As blutach said in the next post, it's also possible, and a lot faster, with DVDSubEdit, but with some limitations.]
• Convert the text file produced by SubRip back to a subpic stream (.SUP format) using Subtitle Creator. You can choose the font at this point.
• Remux all streams using MuxMan. Of course, you have to replace the original .SUP file by the one produced at the previous step. Take care: remux all streams in the same order than in the original! Also, don't forget to import the celltimes.txt file (via the file menu) to recreate the chapter points.
• Import the remuxed title back in the original DVD using PgcEdit's Replace VTST title. When requested if you want to keep the original tables, answer yes.
• If the new subpics are not at the right place, you can use DVDSubEdit to move them up or down.

Just to add to that. DVDSubEdit does have an OCR function that allows you to make an SRT file, which is easily edited in Wordpad, for example. I read somewhere that Subrip has 1 hour time differences (could be wrong).

That's right, but IMO, the OCR function of DVDSubEdit is not sufficiently accurate to output a correct file. It is faster, but IMO it is better to use the manual SubRip method, that gives usually better results. However, it is true that the subrip method takes ages, at least if the character matrix isn't known by the program (as you have to identify each character manually.)

@ r0lZ ... THANKS again for your Great step-by-step guide ... I followed it to the tee last night ... except I chickened out and used DVDSubEdit for converting the SUP to SRT ... since I have used that program couple of times and felt more comfortable with it for now. By the wya, I lucked out and had only 1 PGC as you mentioned ... I Demuxed all streams ... Video, Audio, Subpics and created "Cell Times" also.

Well, as you know Chinese dvds have the worst Subtitles ... Wrong Spellings, Wrong Verbage, few other corks ... I corrected that also without increasing the line lengths ... and therefore not altering the subtitle timing and so forth.

I used "Muxman 0.15Q" and muxed up the Video, Audio, Chapters (via File as per your instruction) and Subpic (my new subtitles).
Muxed up Movie plays back just fine ... EXCEPT I can NOT see the Subtitles ... I tried and tried and came up with the same darn results.

Q: Can you folks tell me what the heck did I do wrong!?!?! And how to fix it ... since I am so close to getting it done!!!

Load the muxed VOB into DVDSubEdit and see if they are there - maybe they are off screen. If so, you can adjust their position.

Another possible problem: in Subtitle Creator, you might have ticked the transparency box for the subpic colour. If it's the case, you can also fix the problem with DVDSubEdit.

Also, if your DVD is in 16:9, there are usually 2 subpic streams for the same language. If you have replaced only one, you might have the wrong, now inexistent stream selected by default. Go to Info -> PGC in PgcEdit and post the output here...
