"SKIP" Ahead 5 minutes-On Home Video DVDs ...HOW ??

I would like my burned home-video DVD movies to behave like a factory-produced "Hollywood" DVD. Specifically, I would like to be able to use the "SKIP" function at any point during playback, regardless of chapter lengths -- which will vary according to subject matter of home video.
As it now stands, if I create chapters of length less than 5 minutes while authoring the DVD, the "skip" does not work at all for that chapter. It doesn't even skip to NEXT chapter!!
If a chapter I have created is greater than 5 minutes , the "skip" button will work once!, but only if there is still at least 5 minutes remaining for that chapter. Again, using this function does not advance to next chapter!(Rem: I'm talking only of DVDs made from home-video sources)
I've owned 6 DVD players. They've all worked alike when playing a "Hollywood" DVD, in that they will skip ahead 5 minutes...OR to the next chapter point in the movie.
Just wishing I could make mine work the same! Somehow, dealing with PGCs ?, cells ?, all that techmo stuff ....cant it be done?

First, try rebuilding the time maps of the DVD. PgcEdit is the tool of choice here. This will enable you to use fast forward and rewind. (Menubar: DVD --> Rebuild all time maps of DVD)

Next, ensure there are no prohibited user operations. From PgcEdit, DVD --> Filter Prohibited User Ops and take all of them out.

Next chapter and Previous chapter should be able to be used, so long as you have chapter points defined (and not just a collection of cells). You can see if you do by double clicking the title in PgcEdit, where all info will become apparent. By clicking on the "blank squares" on the left most column, you can make new programs. Then click OK.

Now, on the menubar, click Title --> PTT (Chapter) Editor. Click Recreate Sequential PTT Table and click OK.

Ctrl-S to save and test in a software player (you will be able to see your chapter marks by double clicking the title PGC again).

If your DVD is one long cell (very unlikely in a home movie), you may need to split the cells.

If you still have problems, from the menubar, call Info --> PGC and post the text here.

Are you sure there are really true chapters every 5 minutes?

It might be necessary to clear the PUOs of your DVD to use some functions.

You can add a tiny dummy chapter at the end of the title to be able to skip to the end of the movie when the last chapter is playing.

It might also be necessary to build the time map of the title (to be able to use the seek to time feature of the players.)

Everything above can be accomplished with PgcEdit.

For more info, load the DVD in PgcEdit. Click on your main title in the left pane and select the menu Info -> PGC. Copy/paste the content of the window here, between [ CODE ] marks. I'll try to help you...

@r0lZ - wondering why there's 2 chapter editors now. Are you, long term, going to go with the new more comprehensive one in the menubar? Maybe make the Edit Chapter (PTT) Table button in the PGC Editor point to that function?

The new editor works fine with non-sequential Titles, with chapters in several PGCs. The old one cannot edit properly the chapters of these titles.
I can't implement the new one in the PGC Editor, because it is not possible by design to know the overall structure of the title within the PGC editor. Sorry.

I agree that the new editor is better, but anyway, it is always possible to use it. But I like to have an editor also available via the PGC editor, because it is often necessary to edit the chapters directly after some cell manipulations.
So, I will leave both editors, as they are now.
