Need help editing: want to keep 6 chapters from dance recital dvd

Okay...I uploaded my daughter dance recital dvd to dvdFabdecrypter and saved it to my documents. I opened up dvdshrink and can get the video there..but I'm not seeing any clickable functions to where I can choose the chapters I want to keep. The video is about 35min long, but I don't want to use the whole recital. I'm wanting to just be able to keep my two daughters 6 dances that I can save to my pc and post it to youtube for family and friends to see. Does that make sense? After I get the video on dvdshrink..I'm stuck and don't know what to click after that to choose my chapters for start and stop..I don't see where that function is located to do it. Can anyone help me out?

    welcome to the forum

use reauthor and the start and stop function to select the parts you want to save

save each individual part then reopen with shrink and combine the titles

I just now tried it and you can open the same disk numerous times in Shrink re-author, allowing you to select multiple clips in one pass.

edit: but it seems to burn them as seperate titles. My bad.

You can also use VobBlanker to cut out the unwanted stuff. Guide on site.

Alternatively, if you have it, you can use Nero Recode, which can remerge the titles into one (if you want that).

okay..i used the reauth mode and the start and stop function for my chapters. It saved them to separate folders though. How do I get them to come together to make one video? And can I choose which format to save them as?

you can reopen them with shrink and add to a compilation(reauthor mode again) and save as combined dvd titles as video files or an iso and burn a dvd

Chewy...okay..how do I do that? Can you give me a quick step by step. The chapters that converted are still in the batch section of Dr. Divx. This is what is listed in the batch section:
              VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_1.divx completed
              VTS_02_1.VOB VTS_02_1.divx completed
              VTS_03_1.VOB VTS_03_1.divx completed
              VTS_04_1.VOB VTS_04_1.divx completed
              VTS_05_1.VOB VTS_05_1.divx completed

as it is you are only taking part of a dvd to reauthor onto another disk?

why are you converting and compressing to mpeg 4 with dr divx?

LOLOL..I have no idea. I'm just a stay at home mom with no techno knowledge here. What I did was I ripped the home dvd with dvdfab decrypter..from there it went to dvd shrink..(i think...I've been at this for 3 days now)...then I used Dr. Divx to choose my start and stop chapters as someone told me to do. And thats where I am now. stuck. Did I totally screw it all up? did i just waste 3 days of piddling with it all to do it wrong and there is actually an easy way to do it? I'm fixing to just give up on it...but it keeps bugging me inside to get it done...so I want to learn.

let me start from the beginning on what I did:

I recorded my daughters recital on my dvd cam with a dvd-r and finalized it. I was told by hitachi that since it was a dvd-r and I finalized it..there was nothing I could do with it but watch it. So I used dvdfab decrypter to copy the dvd on to my pc. Then I used Dr. Divx, click on "add" and found the file with my dvd I saved. Opened it there. It gave me 20 chapters. I wanted to keep chapters 5&6, 11&12, 16, 18, and 20. So I clicked reauth, and chose my chapter I wanted to keep and the start and end chapter, but I clicked it each time to start and end each chapter I wanted to keep..so it put it in 5 separate files. Then it analyzed it and encoded it or whatever it did. So when you click on "batch" on dr. divx..those 5 files are in that box. And I don't know what to do with them..if anything. I wanted to put those chapters I chose(5,6,11,12, 16,18,&20) all together as one video and save it in a format that youtube accepts for uploading.

you are fine if you chose a high compression low file size output for the divx conversion

how big are the chapters in divx format
