4MM 8MM 35MM Reel-to-reel R2R to DVD

Something a little different. I wanted to do this for my parents. My father was an old video/photo man and they have tons of stuff on R2R. I'd like to be able to transfer all of that stuff to digital (DVD and DVHS) for them to have forever.
Any Ideas on where to start? I guess I'm looking for the proper industry terms (and suggestions) for the equipment. I'll probably use Adobe and Nero for the final editing and burning; unless someone has better suggestions.

IIRC a similar question was aked in the 'Restoration' sub-forum at VideoHelp.com a while back. Open reel video tape transfer may be difficult to find.

If I could figure out what the proper terms are for the equipment I could track it down. I know the stuff is out there because companies offer the service around where I live. I've even seen the machines that do it. They look like big printers, and the film runs through it. You use a capture program to record the input as a raw video stream.
I need to know what the box is called, and the names of any companies people know that make them.
