Okay just loaded as a testbed.
It sets the Language font for the DVD_Text (Listbox and Editor) from the selected menu generator font.
Added a selector for setting the code (DVD Text segment) -- Not sure it matters but what the hell
TW is running some lines through the translator (When Dummy DVD_Text segment is created)

On my sys the listbox doesn't seem to display correctly (but the editor line does -- Monkey Scratch head) (Missing dll's probably)

This is just a test -- No idea what will happen at your end

      Thanks, FA.

      I tested TestBed9_4.
Although language code in VMG_TXTDT_MG of VIDEO_TS.IFO can be changed to "ja", text data in VMG_TXTDT_MG of VIDEO_TS.IFO can't be written correctly as Japanese text data.
      For example, Shift-JIS codes 0x82A0, 0x82A2, 0x82A4, 0x82A6, 0x82A8 (5 Kanji characters) are unfortunely written as 0x8282, 0x8282, 0x08282, 0x8282, 0x8282 in the text data area in VMG_TXTDT_MG.

      Regards

I'm using this font (I think you sent it to Me)
        HGPGyoshotai --

Is it just a few characters or all Shift-Jis

I'm not seeing anything like that here (Of course I'm using the translated strings from ja.txt)

Best if we working with the same font

Heres a dump of the string "Title" translated to japanese saved in DVDText from the dvdtext segment in ifoedit
        83 5e 83 60 83 83 83 76 83 (Unsure of the actual # chars)

        Is it Correct?
And the bigger question -- do the settops support the MS standard

Edit: This Is strange -- I'm simply copying bytes in order from the string (wether the are single byte chars or multiple)
My main problem is I can't type Kanji characters (Hard to see results at this end)

          Hi, FA.

          HGPGyoshotai covers all Shift-JIS.

The string "Title" translated to Japanese is:
          83 5E 83 43 83 67 83 8B

I see. The Japanese keyboard has a Kanji key so that Kanji characters can be typed.

Edit: ChangeLanguage.exe can write Shift-JIS codes correctly.
It is strange that Shift-JIS codes can't be written correctly in VIDEO_TS.IFO.

Okay heres a dump of a simple segment

            44 56 44 56 6F 6C 75 6D 65 4E 61 6D 65 09 83 5E 83 43 83 67 83 8B 20 31 09 83 60 83 83 83 76 83 5E 81 5B 20 31 09 83 60 83 83 83 76 83 5E 81 5B 20 32 09

I'm baffled -- the above was pulled from ifoedit --- the translated strings maps back correctly --
            83 5E 83 43 83 67 83 8B 20 31 is Title 1 etc
            83 60 83 83 83 76 83 5E 81 5B 20 31 is Chapter 1

I typed the above codes (using Alt +numeric buttons) and they don't render
            0x82A0, 0x82A2, 0x82A4, 0x82A6, 0x82A8 (or 33440 ->33448) in my word processor

Are you sure the characters exist at those codes?

              Yes.
Run charmap.exe, then you will get a character map like this.

Yes -- Located the problem MFC Routines again -- CEdit Class. Doesn't accept Japanese multi byte Chars in all cases

This may be a bit tricky

Hmm Tetsuro -- Your posts don't seem to show up here -- I see the notices in my E-mail but gone from this forum

Anyway its much worse than that -- Have to recompile for unicode

And of course all TW string literals are ANSI -- 300 errors and counting to be fixed -- Its going to be awhile

                    Hi, FA.

Sorry. Since I wrote a mistaken thing, I deleted it.
In the case of ANSI build, MFC seems to have relation with the code page in which the program was built.

True -- And I have to convert all CString class to TChars, and specify all literals -- Enabling UNICODE in the compilier throws everything dealing with strings and string functions into "MS" ambiguity. Then I relied on a number of single char ( 1 Byte assumed) manipulations (Not allowed under Unicode).
I'll deal with a couple of hundred a night.

To Any Japanese Users -- I've hit a stumbling block as to how the settop boxes read the dvd text segment.
Specifically "What is a Character" and what information is single char or 2 byte when code is ja.

I really need a example of a ifo that contains dvdtext (probably commercial) that displays Japanese characters on say a dvd jukebox or LED scroll
Or perhaps a player Using Japanese language settings.

                          Hi FA,

@ TW Users ... Jog my memory ... is there a "Guide" for TW? If so, where?

                          Thanks,
                          G!

Question: using MakeMenu-Movie Selector Menu Creation

I am using version 4.52. When using the “preview” button under -Movie Selector Menu Creation- all graphics (Thumbnails and Background) look perfect. I click “Create Menu And Add It”. Then, on the Menu Editor page, I select DVD Menus/Preview. The colors are all messed up. This is the same result when I burn to disc and view it on my stand alone DVD player. Same result when I play the VIDEO_TS.IFO with my PC. I even tried -- Movie Selector Menu Creation/ Alter DVD Menu Color, Style Options/ Color Options/ Recolor Bitmap Resources -- ticked and unticked. I am either not understanding something here or just have a setting wrong that I have overlooked. The commands and mapping all work perfectly, there's just the problem with colors. I hope there's an easy explanation or fix. This is a fantastic program!
