Error 103 with Nero DVD Software

    Hello folks,

    First time poster here.

I am using Nero Ultra to capture video from a VHS to my PC. The format of the captured video is MP3. I now want to burn the video to a DVD-R. I have tried 3 times but I keep getting an Error 103. The video stops at different times but the result is the same. I have tried adjusting the paging file size per other posts I have read but nothing works. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks, Bill

I tried to slow the burn speed down to 2X and the burn process lasted longer. Nero seemed to read the entire file and then when Nero started writing to the media, the DVD drive door opened. I closed the drive drawer and then Nero crashed. Here is the output that Nero gave me:

        welcome to the forum

but houston we have a problem, not sure what's going on here at all

        vhs to mp3?

new sata dvd burner, 2x burning? they usually burn at 6x and faster?

try to isolate each step, use vision for transcode/capture to hard drive, check that step then nero burning rom to take to dvd?

          Follow up

Thanks for the reply. Let me see if I can clear up the confusion.

I am trying to convert the video which was taken for my wedding to DVD. The format of the video was VHS. I have a Pinnacle Capture board and I used Nero to capture the video to my hard disk. I believe the format that I captured the video is MPS. Everything captured fine and I can play back the video on my computer from the hard disk.

The next thing I tried to do is to write the MP3 to DVD. I used Nero's Vision or whatever it is called to make a DVD. On my first attempts, Nero would stop during the encoding (by encoding, I mean converting from MP3 to DVD) and give me a "Critical Error 103". I tried two or three times and I got the same result.

I Googled Error 103 and I found threads about changing the page file size on my computer to 4096 for Min and Max. This did not help. I then found threads saying that I should slow down the burn rate from Max to 4X. I did slow the burn rate down to 4X but Nero still failed in the encoding process. Finally, I tried 2x and Nero converted the entire video and then tried to burn the video to the DVD. Nero opened the DVD drive door. I pushed the door closed and Nero crashed.

You are probably thinking that this is a media problem; however, I am using media from Sony and Memorex. As a test, I took the same blank DVD that would not copy the Wedding Video and I copied 28 Weeks later on the DVD without any problems. The only difference between the Wedding Video and 28 Weeks is 28 Weeks was not captured from a VHS and the 28 Weeks was about 3GB and the Wedding Video is 4.6GB which is just shy of the DVD media which is 4.7GB. Should I be doing some type of compression on the captured video prior to encoding and burn? Thanks

Just re-hasing this thread. I tried to burn another DVD last night with Nero Vision. Same result Error 103. Does anyone have anything I can try? I am using Nero Version 7. Thanks
