Keeping Captions?

I have quite a few TV shows I've taped on my settop DVD recorder. I cut the commercials out using editing software, and then go to burn them again.

I know the software I use keeps captions, as I can use a program called ccextractor (command-line) and it will give me a .srt file of the captions.

However, when I put it in TMPGEnc DVD Author, it seems to remove the captions.
Does anyone know of any free programs that can keep captions while authoring a .mpg file into DVD? I don't care about menus, usually I just remove them anyway.

If it's an SRT, they are subtitles, not captions. Mux them in with muxman.

I tried swfextractor on the DVD Author output, and that showed it had captions as well. But yet my TV won't display them...

@blutach, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. The program ccextractor can make a srt file of captions in a VOB, but ultimately it checks for caption data inside VOB files. The fact that it makes a srt means there are captions to begin with.

I might end up asking McPoodle, the guy who wrote several caption programs, he probably knows how to fix the problem.
