questions about VOB/IFO files and playing them

hi.

On my Dell, the media players (there are a few) will play a DVD but they cant play the same exact files from the HDD.

What I dont get is......the backup is identical on the HDD to the DVD in so far as Video TS------VOBs, IFO, BUP etc but it wont play on any player.

When I had a laptop with Power DVD -- I was just able to click the Video_TS.ifo and it would play the movie.

Now I downloaded VLC media player and it will play VOBs but not seemlessly.
There is an annoying break in between changes of VOBs.

Windows Media Player/Center, Media Direct by Dell, Roxio --- all these cant play any VOBs.

So is Power DVD the only player to get to play the Ifos/VOBs like I used to?

Why cant the other players play the files on the HDD when they are identical to a DVD?

In VLC, open the DVD by File - Open Directory and browse to the folder where your DVD project is located. It will play properly.

You might want to try also MPC (Media Player Classic.) Good and free.

but when I open them in VLC---each individual VOB stops at the start like 2-3 seconds instead of the usual "seemless" play.
So I dont know what/why this is but thx for reply. appreciate it!

thnx but tryed more rips with other backups and it does same thing

I think its just Vista OS.
dont like it at all.

Downloaded this player and I like it a lot. thnx.

Problem is - I tryed several VOBs/IFOs etc........they play fine but
NO audio at all. Using Vista Premium OS.

Tryed it on my brothers XP laptop and it worked GREAT---audio awesome.

Can not get any audio on my laptop with Vista but its a cool player.

Probably a missing codec. Does the audio play with Windows Media Player?
