Seamless Branching

This has been on my mind for a while now...

How can I make a DVD use seamless branching? Does it have to be physically in the VOB titleset and then I change some attribute? I tried looking at movies like Star Wars (since the rollups all use seamless branching in different languages) but the authoring is far too complex...

First, yes, the video needs to be in the same VTS. Second, true seamless branching involves interleaved material and only professional authoring programs can do it. There is also a kind of fake seamless branching where the cells are not interleaved as in a true seamless branch. Cells up to about 30 seconds can be skipped over seamlessly provided there is no buffer under/overflow. Muxman can do this and DVDRMP also has some interesting virtual seamless branching functions.

Hmm, neither of those threads cover what Muxman or DVDRBP can do... I have both of those programs.

I'm trying to do what the guy on doom9 was describing, have a video play and you can select whether or not to watch the extended version. Extended version would play from start to finish, while the normal version would skip over the added stuff. Problem is it's longer than 30 seconds so I can't do the method you were describing.

The 30 seconds skipping pertains to discrete segments, not the total of added material.

You could author 2 titles, one extended, one normal. If the extended bits do not contain stuff that would fit between any cell in the normal title by more than 30 seconds, the virtual SLB might work. Of course, if it just stuff at the end, there's nothing to worry about.

It would be stuff in the middle, not the end.

So you're saying I could skip like 6 30-second segments? Or would that make the player act weird?

I'm saying up to 30 seconds. Sounds like you need it to be interleaved.

If I just make one title with the added footage, can I tell it to skip that? I don't know how to interleave anything...
