Placing subtitles precisely

Hello again,
This may seem like a trivial point, but I'm having trouble placing my subtitles right where I want them. The trouble seems to be a descrepancy between how high they appear on my computer vs. my standalone player. Other than that they are perfect. I can play the DVD folder using VLC or Media Classic player and they are precisely perched on the bottom of the frame. But after I burned the DVD and tried playing it in the standalone, the subtitles were about a full line too high. Does the standalone follow different rules than the computer players? Also, I burned the DVD as a data disc, containing just the VIDEO_TS folder and its contents. Could that make a difference?

No, if it plays on your standalone, it has burned OK.

Does the standalone follow different rules than the computer players?

Are you sure you have edited the right subpic stream? If the movie is in 16:9, it may have two subpic streams: one for the 4:3 TVs, and the other one for the 16:9 TVs.

Although I agree with blu that doing this should not make a difference in the way the subtitles are displayed, you should always burn the DVD-Video files as a DVD-Video. Burning them as data is incompatible with the standard compliant players, and your DVD may work only on the DivX compatible players! Use ImgBurn!

Actually, I did use DVDSubedit, and used it to place my top line of the subtitles so the bottom of the characters were on the bottom edge of the picture. The second line of the subtitles were down below the picture frame, but I figured that was OK since it seemed to show up fine on the standalone player in the past. I was just surprised that after I burned it to disc, it wasn't where I originally placed it. There is only one subpic stream for sure, and the picture is in 4:3 format. I guess I'll just have to use some trial and error to get it just right for standalone use.
