Aspect ratio headache

I really need some help from someone who knows what they're talking about!

I've been trying to burn dvd using a 16:9 source video. I've used Sony Sound Forge to reduce the background humming (which it did successfully). Then I used Windows Movie Maker to add titles etc and convert to .avi. Following this, I then used DVD Flick to convert to DVD. The resulting DVD has the sides scrunched together, introducing black bars on either sides (called pillar boxing, I believe). In the options I've tried selecting 16:9, but the sides are scrunched every time regardless.

If anyone can help me solve this, I'll get a good nights sleep for the first time in days.

I'll give it a chance and look into it - thanks.

I was hoping that there was some easy to use conversion software, where you put in your source files and generate a dvd in the aspect ratio required. Probably asking for too much!

You haven't said in which file format is your source file. We cannot help much without that info.

Anyway, you should try to convert it directly to DVD, without creating an intermediate AVI.

Many conversion apps will allow you to add things via AviSynth scripts. With that FitCD you don't need to know anything about AviSynth except where to put the script with the converter you are using. AviSynth is very powerful. If you ignore it you're missing one of the best free video softwares there is. Works with most everything.

The whole point of the FitCD reference is on the destination side you check 16x9 anamorphic. It figures it out for you. Pretty much what you asked for.
