creating ifo and skip fast forward etc.

First post for me so hello.
I have had a quick look around and can't quite find a topic ...
I have a Humax TV recorder and transfer recorded items to my PC.
For each program you get a TS file and some other control files that apparantly no one knows the format of.
Any way the TS file play nicely on my PC
I can split them up and also convert to vob files OK but I don't have any ifo file etc.
I used ifoedit to generate some and burned a DVD with imgburn.
I have two DVD players and it plays OK on both. But the rewind fastforward and skip don't work.
Any free utils that might help, I assume I need to generate some form of menu.

Check PUOs (if any) are not set (they shouldn't be). Then, regenerate the timempas with PgcEdit.

The directory structure is not relevant (except for the fact that it breaches the DVD spec - no VTS can have more than 10 VOBs, numbered 0 to 9, with 0 being the menu).

First, combine files "9" through "16" into one giant file. Do this with the DOS copy/b command.

Open a command window in the project directory and type:

Copy /b VTS_01_9.VOB + VTS_01_10.VOB + ...... + VTS_01_16.VOB newfile

(make sure you get all files 9-16).

Then, move files 9-16 to somewhere safe just in case, and rename "newfile" to VTS_01_9.VOB. It should be the same size as the total of files 9-16.

Now, open your project in PgcEdit. Double click on the movie and check the PUOs = 0.

Then go to the Title menu and Verify All Time Maps Coherence. If it is wrong, accept PgcEdit's offer to fix. Save and run it through your favourite transcoder to fix the sizes of the VOBs.

Oh, and to get skip to work, you'll need to define chapter points. If your source VOBs have defined cells, you can check the create one chapter for each cell in IfoEdit. If not, you can manually create chapter points, with VobBlanker or, if you prefer a package, something like Ner0 Recode.
