Title missing

I have a DVD with theoretically 5 titles. However, title 4 (the main movie) is "missing" - PgcEdit displays titles 1, 2 3, and 5. Is there a way to "force" this title to appear?

Try this:

In PgcEdit, select the PGC with the video of the missing title, then use Title -> New 'Play All' Title. Now, you should see a new Title with the movie, and perhaps other cells as well.

If the title PGC is not alone in its own titleset, you may have to delete the cells not pertaining to the movie. (Double-click the new PGC to open the PGC Editor, and use the Remove Cells button.)

You will also need to fix the navigation commands. If your DVD has a menu, you may have to edit it to link the "Play" button and the chapters buttons to the movie. If it has no menu, be sure to call the main movie from the First-Play PGC or from another file. And you should do something similar to return to the movie or jump to another title when the movie has finished playing. Without edits, you should still be able to play the movie by selecting it with the Title menu of the DVD player.

I created the New “Play-All” Title and, as to be expected, the new title includes the other VOBs in Titleset 3, with Playback times of 00:20:06 (Title 3) and 00:00:05, giving the new Title an extra 00:20:11 Playback time (in all 01:39:05).

Deleting these two cells, a warning appears: “Several progs are now pointing to the same cell. This situation may be illegal.....Programs 2, 3 → 2.”

The two deleted cells were replaced by a new cell (ID 1/1) with a Playback time of 00:20:06. But the new Title’s playback time was 01:39:00, compared with 01:39:05 before deletion of the two cells. That is, the playback time of Title 3 remained. By deleting the new cell 1/1, the Playback time reverted to the expected 01:18:54). The same warning message: ““Several progs are now pointing to the same cell ...” appeared.

The new Title’s post-commands are the same as for the untitled PGC, but there are no pre-commands. I suppose I should copy these over from the untitled PGC. Also, there is the problem of replacing the commands calling the untitled PGC. How can these be copied over?

For the progs pointing to the same cell, do this:
Open the PGC Editor by double-clicking the new Title in the left pane. Now, click TWO TIMES the first button in the column with the label "Prog. (PG)" in the cells list. This will force PgcEdit to re-order the cells. But now, you will probably have several additional chapter points that you must delete too. (If it's the case, PgcEdit will highlight the "Edit Chapters (PTT) Table" button in red and issue a warning.) Have a look at the last button in the "Prog. (PG)" column and note its number. It's the number of Programs in the PGC. Then, click the "Edit Chapter (PTT) Table" in the bottom of the PGC Editor window. You should see a number of lines with chapter and program numbers. (The chapters and program numbers must be identical in each line.) If there are additional chapters pointing to non-existing programs, use the Delete Last Chapter button to delete them.

Note that the original title may have cells not used as programs. If it's the case, you must also remove the programs in the new Title: Double-click the old PGC to see the cells list and note where there are cells without program numbers (if any). On such cells, the Prog. button has no chapter number (no label). Finally, if necessary, duplicate the same structure in the new PGC. You have to click on the button corresponding to the Prog. to remove it. Then, again, shorten the Chapters Table accordingly.

You are right for the pre-commands. Copy them from the orphan PGC to the new PGC.

You must now edit the commands calling the old PGC so that they will call the new one. That should be easy, but you have to locate them and modify them all. To locate the commands calling the old PGC, right-click on the old PGC in the left pane, and select "Go to calling command". You should see a little window with one or several commands. Click the first command to go to its location. Now, click the real command, and modify it so that it points to the new PGC. Normally, you should modify the PGC number or the Title number, depending of the command.

Finally, to be sure that everything is OK, use Info -> Find Uncalled PGCs. The old orphan PGC should now be uncalled. In the same menu, select also Find Jumps to Nowhere, to verify if the navigation commands of the whole DVD are correct. Normally, there should be no jumps to nowhere in the whole DVD. Finally, save everything and test carefully with a good software player. (Normally, the DVD should work, but since it was not correctly authored, there might be other problems elsewhere, so be careful before burning it.)

I copied over Title 3’s pre- and calling-commands.

In the PGC editor window the “Chap (PTT)” column went from 1 to 11, while the “Prog” and “Cell” columns went from 1 to 12. A first click on the first button (which had no number label) of the “Prog” column opened the window “PgcEdit :Toggle Program” with text: “You must edit the Chapter table to remove or reassign chapters pointing to removed programmes...”.
Clicking on the “Edit Chapter (PTT) table” button opened the “Chapter (PTT) Table editor” where the Chapters and Programs were aligned, going from 1 to 14. On closing this latter window the “Chap (PTT)”, “Prog” and “Cell” columns in the Pgc editor now all correspond going from 1 to 12.

The video is now working fine. The former main movie is now “uncalled”, so I suppose it will be deleted with Removing Useless Stuff. However, I remain puzzled in that I don’t find a "Prog. (PG)" labelled column in the Pgc editor and that I am unable to click two times on the first button of the Prog column.

It's not a prog labelled "column" but the opposite. There is a column in the cells table labelled "Prog. (PG)". It's in that column that you have to click two times on the first cell (the first line of the table). The first time, PgcEdit should remove the program from that cell (or the programs if there are several programs assigned to the first cell), and renumber the other programs assigned to the subsequent cells. (You may seen the warning about the chapters at that time, as you have experienced.) The second time, PgcEdit should add the first program back to the first cell. Anyway, if there is the same programs and chapters in the new Title than in the original PGC and if they are assigned to the same cells, you got it right.

As a last check, verify with a software player or with the PgcEdit trace if the buttons in the chapter menu (if any) lead to the correct chapter entry points.
