Ripped, resized 6.4GB movie burned in 87 minutes!

87 minutes!!. This is the 6th movie I've done with the follwoing software. All play beautifully! Haven't found a set top DVD player that hasn't accepted the movie. Quality is outstanding.. interested? Hope the following will help someone else out. *S*

I have been playing around with a DVD back up software called DVD2one. VERY impressed.

Movie: Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood.

Software: DVD Decrypter, DVD2one, IFOEdit, Nero 5.5.10.0

Start at 7:11 P.M. Placed movie in DVD drive and opened up DVD Decrypter. Setting is for I/O of WINASPI 32 4.71.1 version, use FILE mode, burn main movie, plus the first few files associated above it.
Final rip 6,345,080,832 bytes (too big for 1 DVD.
Start DVD2one program. Choose main movie, Endlish language, no subtitles, main angle. Source is the VIDEO_TS folder in the ripped movie from DVD Decrypter. Destination folder is one I created called "C:\YA_YA_BURN\VIDEO_TS" Time to complete the stip and re-mux task (make the files fit onto 4.7GB) was 17 minutes!! Yes, that's right 17 minutes. Normally takes me 8 or so hours using REMPEG2 go do a re-make of the movie files.
NEXT: Used IFOEdit, and now go to the folder containing the newer and smaller movie files, and click on VIDIO_TS.IFO and get that. Check the "Get VTS SEctors" and most times it re-does the pointers. Not now.. DVD2one did it on the fly. So, all I do next is click "region free" (which is really a bonus, and not really needed) and it makes the new movie region free, click SAVE and save the same file name as appears, and created a .BUP as well.

Next: Nero Burning Rom software. DO NOT use wizard!! DO NOT choose DVD VIDEO!! resulting burned DVD will not be compliant and will fail to play in a set top player. CHOOSE -> UDF mode and give the DVD a name. then click "NEW" and you then choose the drive and folder where the movie is, and copy over the empty AUDIO_TS folder (I created it back in the very beginning when I created the folder for the movie to go to), and click and paste the VIDEO_TS folder over onto the left. Now burn! When complete, put into player and watch movie.

There are no main menus, no traliers, etc etc.. just the movie, but it plays beautiful.

End of Nero burn was at 8:38 P.M .. so it took 1 hour and 27 minutes to burn from the very beginning of rip, re-encode to final burn. The program DVD2one is written in machine language to make it work faster, and I guess it has acomplished that in a BIG way. I'm impressed! This is the 4th movie that has been that easy to burn and they ALL were above the 4.7 GB limit when originally ripped. This is a try and if you like buy software, and believe me, it's worth it.

dvd2one is all the "buzz" the doom9.org forum contains detailed threads on the software and it's supposedly "blazing fast" speed as well as some shortcomings

Been some comments from others, also moderators, that they are not interested in "just the movie" but want to copy the whole DVD. I own the DVD and if I want to watch the trailers, alternate ending, other stuff, well, guess what? I just bring out the original DVD and put it in.

What surprised me is that it seems to arrange things just enough to 'fit' within the 4.7 GB limit. Last movie I did, "Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood" barely fit onto 4.7 and originally it was 6,345,080,832 bytes big in the VIDEO_TS folder that DVD Decrypter created... which is WAY to big for the DVD5 disc.

There might be better compression programs, like CCE *sp*and, grant it, might do a better job. But for ease of just clicking a few "start" buttons while you go about the evening routine, the resutilng movie is MORE than quality enough for me.

I originally came from Nebraska, USA. We had antenna or cable that we paid $20 to $30 a month just to watch. Quality is WAAAAAY down there compared to the quality of this movie decrypted/burned onto DVD5. I'm sure there are LOTS of other folks out there that know exactly what I'm talking about.

And, when you speak of splitting to 2 DVDs, well we can buy a lot of different movie titles at the local Wal Mart for $7.00 to $9.00 each so what's the point? A lot of DVD titles are just $14.00 and a very few are $19.00.

Recap: If I burn a movie I own onto 1 DVD and it's just a main movie, no extras, I'm grateful. I can store my origianl away, and know that if the copy get's stepped on, or badly scratched (we have an 8 year old ) That replacement is only a few dollars and less than 2 hours away.

yeh i just found that out today, cause I was writing guides on my site a few weeks ago on backing up DVD's.

I thought nero could do it, but it couldn't (don't have a DVD burner) so I re-wrote the part on burning, this time using Instant CD-DVD...and now, hopefully a FULL guide on burning DVD's using that tool and also DVD2ONE

                Nero and DVDs

I use Nero 5.5.10.0 version to burn my 'compiled' DVD folder with files. I use the UDF mode only. I can burn in UDF and plays fine in set tops. I burn in DVD Video (selection) and resulting DVD RW won't play except on computer with Power DVD. Ive tried UDF/IFO mode as well, and same story. So... I stick with UDF. Others may have great luck with it in other modes, just for me, my computer, my set of files I use, UDF works.

You see.. we forget something very critical. I have seen people write guides for burning to DVD and yes they do work for the most part, but consider that maybe someone doesn't have a new or good working ASPI layer or DLL files on their computer. They may only be working with 128MB Ram or LESS.. Their Processor might be the older 233MMX or others. What about the Video card?? There are just so many variables. I have installed Nero's Video CoDecs in my computer, and I use WINASPI32 XP from Adaptec. Some may use a different version. Some may say that their version is the only stable one.. maybe...

Like golf... just pick a 9 iron and hit the dang ball into some area of the green close to that little flag.. and do some puttering from there..
