    Dvd10----->dvd5

First off I'm a long time reader, first time poster of this forum and this site.

Ok, first off I have gone through everything on this site along with doom9.org and afterdawn.com and found nothing.

The problem that I am having is that I finally found Dawn of The Dead and I want to back it up as it was dificult to find and I do not want to use the original anymore than I have to.

    1) This dvd is a dvd-9 double sided media

    2) How can I take just the movie .vobs from both sides and put them on 1 dvd-r disk? "dvd-5"

    3) I have tried taking the vobs from both sides and then putting them all in one folder and renaming the last few vobs to fit into the naming sequence of the first vobs. But this doesn't work. And I do not know enought about ifoedit to do this and I haven't found a walk through on how to do this.
Well if their is anyone that can help me with this I would much appreciate it as it is something knew and I haven't seen nor found any info on this subjet matter.

Oh and my current method that has worked for 50+ dvd-r backups is as follows:

step 1) use shrink dvd 2.3 to get the information from the dvdto the Hard drive.

step 2) check the disk with software dvd player

step 3) if everything works the way you want it then burn it out, I use nero newet version/dvd ifo/iso and I enable xbox compatability mode.

Never had a problem yet with this method and it works great. But I do only do Movie backups I don't include the menus or anything like that I don't have the time to navigate between such useless stuff like that "in my opinion useless"

and for some reason either ppl are doing these disks with 2 dvd blank media or they aren't doing them at all.

This link explains step-by-step how to join double sided DVD to one DVD5. I used it myself and it worked fine.

      1) Make a separate folder for each of the two full DVD filesets

      2) Use DVDShrink (or DVD95Copy or DVD2One) to compress each side in "Full Disk(or Full DVD") mode to nogreater than 2.18Gigs per side - and save to their respective folders

      3) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (not to be confused with "TMPGEnc") to put the two filesets onto one DVD - with easily created menus, if you desire...

Ok, I've tried this a few times and I have a 3 disk dvd-r coaster set now.

I have tried to take just the vob files from both sides of the disk and put them in disk 1 and disk 2 folders, Then open up the last vob file in disk 1 with vobedit to find the last Navigation Pack. The last vob-id. I have not been able to find this item . I have used dvd shrink to pull the information from the disks and place the information in disk 1 and disk 2.

I have tried to just pull the vobs with dvd decrypter and then do the vobid thing and make the vob file set and then rename them and put them in the disk 1 folder then use ifo to make the ifo's when I did this I pute all the files into the VIDEO_TS folder and then Open it with win dvd off the hdd and it works fine. but when I burnt it out it wouldn't play in my stand alone dvd player but when I put it back in the computer and open windvd it plays fine.

Then I redid the same process but took the files and ran them through dvd2one and tested the movie again with windvd and it worked fine so I burnt it out. This time it played in the stand alone dvd player but when it switched to the vobs from disk 2 "side 2 of dvd" it began to show video corruption. Now I thought this was due to the fact that I used dvdshrink to compress the files before I joined them with vobedit and ifoedit. and I also know that the compression on each were different.

The guides that the link that mutant posted has helped alot but is lacks alot of the detail that is needed.

If anyone has any other tips for me that is what I'm after.

        thx

I'm going to try the tmpgenc dvd author method that setarip has posted.

Ok, I have tried to used TMPGEnc DVD Author, "cool program" but I took both the vobs from both sides of the disk and put them in their respective folders. then I told TMPGEnc where there files and and let it joing them and create a new filder for them. Everything as far as this app went fine. After it finished the whole disk was to large but I did test it with windvd and it opened fines.

I then Ran all the files through shrink DVD and shrank it to fit on the disk. This process went fine and when it finished I tested the files again and then burnt them out. but when I play this disk in my stand alone dvd player I start to see artifacting about half way into the feature and then close to the end it just locks up. But I can take this dvd and put it in my laptop and start windvd and it auto plays and doesn't artifact nor does it lock up.

I'm going to try this method 1 more time but I'm going to use shrink dvd to get the vobs to the hdd first, Then I'm going to use TMPGEnc to put the files together. and then I'll test it again and burn it out. If this doesn't work I'm going to ban dvd-10 disks from my possesion and my household :>

The last navigation pack can be a long way up from the end. Be patient when looking for it.

              1) Based on what you've described, you've made a good DVD-R by following my suggested procedures - Congratulations ;>}

              2) Run a DVD/CD cleaning disk on your standalone player. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US

              3) Most standalone DVD players are very "finicky" about which (if any) brands of burnable DVDs they'll playback properly. Check the specific abilities/limitations of your make/model standalone DVD player at:

That is a good suggestion and I will pick up one of those next time I get out.

But the matter is that I have 50+ other dvd-r's same media but all done from dvd-5 disks and they work flawlessly with this player. that is why I think that it is something that I have done and this 1 movie is begining to become a nightmare from Hell "Dawn of the dead"

I guess from what setarip is saying is that using dvddecrypter then vobedit then ifoedit then run through dvd2one then test then burn. but when I did that it plays fine in the laptop dvd player but not the setop dvd player so I don't know what to say about this one. I'm stumped .

I've said NOTHING about using either IFOEdit or VOBEdit!

sorry about that, that was mutant that sent that link, I've used both methods and their is a lot of ways of doing this I guess I'm trying to get a straigt forward method and also the most simplistic but also going to result in the most working right, not failing.

Well guys thx to you ppl giving me great advice I have acheived my goal, Thx Guys.

And I wrote up what I did to make this possable.

Create a Folder with the movie name, Then create a Disk 1 and Disk 2 folder

First use shrink dvd and do a author on the dvd

Then select the main movie and use a compression level that will not exceed 2.18gb

                      Then click backup and wait

Then do the same thing for the second side of the dvd "disk 2" be sure not to exceed 2.18gb with compression

                      Then Click backup and wait

Now that you have the info on the hdd. You need to Open TMPGEnc DVD Author

Click Source Setup, Then click add dvd video

Choose the Dir for Disk 1 then click ok

Then leave default and go through the next&go

then do the same thing for Disk 2

once you have both disks fed into tmpgenc dvd author then click on Create Menu and choose no menu

                      Then click output

Choose the dir that you want tmpgenc to save the files to and also leave create dvd folder checked as it will create the AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS dir's and then put the files in VIDEO_TS where they should be.

The press Begin Output, AND WAIT!!

Once this process is finished open up your dvd player and point it to the dvd files that you just created, go through them and make sure everything works. and then try it again. and then check to make sure that your not over your dvd-5 size to burn to a disk. and if everything is good then open up your dvd prog and burn it out.

                      Their you go

This walkthrough cost me 7.00 and I give it to you for free, enjoy.

(I really don't see how your self-proclaimed walkthrough varies from the procedures I set out for you [other than you've chosen not to add a menu]:

                        1) Make a separate folder for each of the two full DVD filesets

                        2) Use DVDShrink (or DVD95Copy or DVD2One) to compress each side in "Full Disk(or Full DVD") mode to nogreater than 2.18Gigs per side - and save to their respective folders

It's my walkthrough, so I know how to do it. I took what you said to do and did it but I made it so that I would know how to do it for future reference.

I thank you again for the great advice.
