don't know why but computer fixed now and working on 4x speed again. All i did was reboot and it fixed itself. Now have the latest version installed and all seems fine.

          Oriphus,

What make of DVD discs are u using with your DVR-105?

I'm having trouble, big trouble, it just won't recognise that it's got a disc in it!

Some say it won't work with XP?

make sure that its set as a MASTER - always and make sure you updated the firmware

the DVD R discs that work for sure are the following:

Datawrite (Datasafe) - the orange colored ones
            SOMETIMES - memorex

Try using the guaranteed generic discs (try to find them locally) which meritline.com has listed for the '05.

I have the 104 and the 106 and they work flawlessly on any kind of generic discs (which don't have "physical" manufacturing flaws such as dye missing, different shaded spots, etc.).

As far as writing speed being limited, sometimes discs which are advertised to burn @ 4X aren't write supported but @ 1X and 2X as the manufacturers did not pass the quality/write test which Pioneer has ( BIG hint-hint), Also some software interferes with write speed, too.
              Rig :

              P - 4 @ 1.7 Ghz, 768 mb (133) Ram, Intel 845 chipset M'board, Seagate 60 Gig., 5400 rpsm hdd, Maxtor 40 Gig. 7200 rpm hdd, Hauppauge 880 pvr card, etc.. O.S. - XP Home Edition.
