After having infinite problems backing up DVDs with choppy or frozen video, I finally found a combination of media/software that worked for me. If some of you are also having difficulty, try using this combination and it may help.
This is my configuration:
Pioneer A06 DVD Burner
Memorex DVD-R 2X blanks
DVDShrink 2.3 or Beta 5
Nero 6
Thus far I have been able to backup all of my DVDS including several that were giving me problems with DVDXCopy including Top Gun and Spirited Away.
I know there are many persons that have had great success with DVDXCopy software or DVDXCopy XPress. I think the problem I was having had something to do with the compression that DVDXCopy Xpress used to put larger movies on one disk. For some reason DVDShrink seems to have more reliable compression and it resolved my issues with poor video playback.
Thought I would share if some of you are also having difficulty with freezes and choppy video and would like to try an alternative. Also, always remember not to put a label on the DVD disk as it can also cause the movie to freeze.
Cheers
