Please help with error message "Could not perform end of Disc-at-Once".

    Hi,

I have had 5 consecutive failures at backing up DVD movie to DVD +R discs. Your advice is badly needed.

I use DVD Decrypter to decrypt, Nero Recode to compress, and Nero Burning ROM 6 to burn to my new Plextor PX-708A burner. Power DVD 5 plays the files.

Strangely, I was successful at the first two attempts to burn onto Ricoh DVD +RWdiscs. But when I next tried to burn to a 4x Ricoh +R disc , I got the following error messages:
    - Writing lead out
    - Invalid field in parameter Plextor DVDR PX_708A \H2 T0
    - Could not perform end of Disc-at-Once
    - Burn process failed at 4x

Subsequent to that I tried again using Ricoh silver top, 2.4x DVD +R discs. Except for the 4x changing to 2.4x, there was the same failure messages.

Please advise what I am doing wrong and how to correct it.

    Many thanks

    Nosmo King.

Compress your files to slightly smaller size for burning to +Rs...

I like you am currently experiencing a similar problem.
Nothing wrong with the burner, nothing wrong with the discs.
The issue here is are they compatible???
Ur first discs were and ur second were not.Try expirementing
with different types of media till u find the ones that are compatible with ur burner when u do stick with them!!!

Melios69 Hello, and thank you for your advice.

The burner I use is the very latest up-to-the-minute new Plextor 708A, +/- R/RW burner which is advertised as burning up to 8x speed in +R.

The first two burns I made which were successful, were on Ricoh +RW.

The next burn was attempted on Ricoh +R 4X disc, and failed.

That 4x disc cost me over £4 ($6) so I ordered cheaper Ricoh +R 2.4x discs, and continued on them. But all 7 attempts to date have failed. The fault messages were identical each time.

The last two attempts out of the 8 that failed, were attempted using 'Nero for Plextor' software which came with the drive. The first attempts were used with Nero Version 6.015.

So you will see that I have rung many changes, and am now out of any fresh ideas.

            Please help if you can.

            Nosmo.

I suspect that the drive being new, that it does not support a whole range of discs yet. Hopefully later firmware updates will solve that. The error message sounds like it may have run out of room at the end to finish writing. As suggested by another poster, try compressing the video to a slightly smaller size and then burn that. Actually try to write maybe 3 gb worth of data to the disc and see if that works first.
Otherwise you may have to try other brands of discs until you get lucky.

                  kypumper Hello,

If not already done so (I am assuming you are in the United Kingdom) go to www.plextor.be, on their technical support page, and apply for an RMA.

Also, send them a report on their 'feedback' page and complain loudly.

If you are not in the UK, I am sure that the www.plextor.com site will offer similar RMA and feedback facilities for other countries.

                  Nosmo.

Also I thank Solara for hios contribution.

My first two attempts at burning were on +RW discs and both were successful first time. So I took the same file and tried to burn it to the cheaper +R discs for a permanent record. As you know I have failed.

Amongst the several variations I introduced in order to see what I was doing wrong, I recompressed the file to 4.2GB from the original 4.43 GB. but it did not make any difference. I have presently complained to Plextor by phone and by their web site feedback page, and finally, requested an RMA.

                  Nosmo.

                        kypumper Hello,

                        I await your information.

Please include the Plextor Firmware number, 1.0 or 1.1?

Please include the software you have used to burn and its version number. Also what software did you use to rip and to compress the files, and the sizeof the file you are trying to burn.

                        Many thanks

                        Nosmo.

PS. Plextor Europe say that these problems are not a fault of the drive, but are due to the Nero Software. They say that Nero 6 will not as yet work for the 708A, and neither does the version of Nero that they bundled with the drive - 5.5.10.45.

I have asked them which software will actually work with their drive. They have not replied to this question.

Did you happen to install IC8 and the PID image viewer that came with it? If so thats your problem. Remove the image viewer, it and Nero do not play well together.

Nosmo The media did the same but if you use DVD decryptor to close the track then the disc it will work fine Nero has a bug with Plextor 708 hopefully they will patch that DVD decryptor saved all my coasters
