    LG 4040B and CSS PROBLEM

    Hello all,

just bought a n LG 4040B burner, which gives me the pain in the neck.

So far, I have tried to backup some 10 DVDs, all of which pop up with the same error message:

The 4040B refuses to read any CSS coded DVDs.
    Therefore, no backup possible.

    Does anyone know this problem?
Does anyone know, whether a firmware upgrade may help?
Maybe a firmware downgrade would be preferrable, as the problem may be imposed by new firmware releases.

Does anyone know a good backup tool that is surely working with the 4040B ?

    Thanks,

    Qapla' !

Have you tried using DVD Decrypter?

      Not yet.

I have had CloneDVD (3 Versions) and Instant Copy on the bench so far.

Clone DVD stated explicitly THE DVD RECORDER REFUSES TO READ THE DATA due to CSS.
That's why I thought, it might be a firmware problem.

I have taken on the DVD Decryptor and I will test it later today (it's around noon here now).

Back with proceedings in 20 hrs.

      Thanks,

I have the same drive and it works fine with all DVD software.

CloneDVD cannot read CSS protected discs. You have to rip to the hard disc first

I have managed to rip just fine with smartripper, DVD Decrypter and Shrink.

I have the orginal 104 firmware. There is 300 and 301. It only allows 4x copying on cheap nasty Princo discs.

There must be some other reason.

            That's good.

It is really a very nice drive (especially in my aluminium case).

How I *dream* of being able to record on Princo!

just thought you ought to know that
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

I wouldn't burn at 4x anyway. It can cause skipping and freezing. Burn at a maximum of 2x - or 2.4x +.
