    Problems backing up DVDs

I have used both DVD2one and DVD Shrink for ripping and for burning I have both Nero 5 and Veritas RecordNow and the results are usually the same. No matter what combo I use, I usually end up with error messages when the burning software goes through the comparison process. Occasionally I will get a successful comparison but it is the exception. When I get error messages, the burned DVD hangs up somewhere along the line.

I have tried cleaning the DVD's before ripping, cleaned both DVD drives, player and burner. My burner is a Sony DRU500A.

Would appreciate any ideas as to what is going wrong.

Your problem may be due to poor quality media...

Are you speaking of the actual DVD itself or the DVD+RW? My RWs are mostly Ritek

I was referring to the media you are burning to - but there's certainly nothing wrong with Ritek's quality.

I'd suggest you try the following:

Use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO"

Forgive my ignorance but is "DVD Decrypter" a program or just a term for decrypting software such as "Smartripper"

If it is a program, where can I get it?

Is it necessary to use DVD Shrink after ripping with DVD Decrypter or can I burn direct from the files created by DVD Decrypter thereby saving a step?

By the way, thanks for all of your help, it is appreciated.

If the ripped DVD "package" is less than 4.37Gb, you have no need to use DVD Shrink. If it's greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink to compress it...

                My pleasure ;>}

Well, I thought your solution of using DVD Decrypter was the answer as I had to "clean" burns in a row but now I am bakc to the same problem, after the verification process has run, there is an error message telling me that a certain number of files were either inaccessable or were incorrect....

Maybe my originals are just scratched or something however they don't appear to have any problems

Hi guys! So here is my problem! I use dvd-decrypter to rip a movie! I use file mode! If it is greater than 4.36G i am using dvd2one to shrink my movie! when I test my files with powerdvd everything is ok! So i am burning the movie without any problems with nero 6 or copy2dvd! But when i use the disc to watch the movie it stucks in a scene and doesn't go further more... It's like it is the same scene to the rest of the movie... I am using a plextor 708A and allstar dvd-r general 4x.I already have 15 movies that play just fine! anyone?

                      Hi DaSoP

I don't have an answer for your problem but I do have a suggestion. You have tagged your requwst for help onto the end of my post requesting help that is several days old now.. In all lkllihood, very few peopple will see it.

I would suggest you start a completely new post with your request and you will probably get an answer.
