CDvdCSS::Read Failed DVD SHRINK

Hello To everybody,

Need your help
I try to back up a dvd on my HDD with dvd srink 2.3.
It stopps backing it up and show a message :CDvdCSS::Read Failed .I have tried with my player MSI and my PionneER A03.
it's not working.
i read things on forum that was saying previous version of dvdshrink could do it .(i then tried with 2.2 and it's not working again) after i with 3.3 and again it isnt working.
I tried then to use dvd decrypter that stops also in the middle of doing it.(i dont know if its normal that nothing show on buffer field , never go above 1%)
Have you go another solution.
I try also to launch power dvd and try at the same time to back u the dvd with dvdshrink but it's making an error.
Any idea why , any help will be appreciated.

Hi everybody

I've got exactly same problem.

DVD Shrink says:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue the operation
CDvdCSS:: Read Failed !
The reason is: Datas error (cyclical redundance control)

SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter also can't rip this DVD.

With other DVD, before and after try this one, all are rights at rip.
I try to rip with the DVD reader and with the DVD burner: same error.

I look at all the entire DVD and I can watch it without problem.

Is anyone can help us ou inform us on how to success the rip ?

Hi you two, and welcome to the forums.

CDvdCSS:: Read Failed !
The reason is: Datas error (cyclical redundance control)

This error message is indicative of the disc being dirty or physically damaged.
I can only suggest you try and clean it, and if it still doesn't rip, use a "DVD repair" kit.

Ripping a DVD is more "demanding" than viewing it, which would explain why you were able to watch it with no problem.

Thanks a lot for your information ddlooping.

I think you're right at 99.9 %
When I look at, with great attention, the DVD itself, I can see that it is not very clean and there are a few stripes.
As I know the friend who lend me this DVD is not tidy at all, I understand why the DVD doesn't have a clean surface.
Another friend has got this same DVD. I'll try with it and post the result here in a few days.

Please keep in mind it is against forum rules to talk about making copies of DVDs you don't legally own (even if it might be allowed in France).
So I will assume you're making the backup for your friend, owner of the original DVD.

Heres a tip for cleaning DVD's with scratches that cannot be removed by normal cleaning.

Use a little metal polish on the disk to polish the scratch out. It is slightly abrasive and will easily polish the scratch out. After that give it a quick wipeover and polish with a clean cloth to remove the residue.

I have repaired many a badly scratched disk this way. This also works for scratches on glass such as spectacles and TV's/Monitors.

AFTER LONG HOURS OF SEARCH , I FOUND WHY DVDSHRINK WAS DOING THIS ERROR.
not because of RCE, NOT ALWAYS BECAUSE THE DVD IS NOT CLEAN (happenned only with one).
bUT BECAUSE OF A PROTECTION.

DVDSHRINK IS NOT ABLE TO BACK UP A DVD WITH PROTECTION CCS/CPPM.

THE ONLY WAY IS TO USE DVDDECRYPTOR AND GO IN SETTINGS AND TICK THE BOX CALLED FORCE CCS.
wHEN YOU DO AND COME BACK TO THE MAIN SCREEN IT WILL SHOW YOU THE NAME OF THE PROTECTION NEXT TO COPY PROTECTION SYSTEM.

THIS PROTECTION IS MAKING YOUR DVD CRAZY SO THAT AFTER A CERTAIN TIME HE LOOSES HIMSELF.
dvd decryptor will break the ccs protection at each file to make sure that your dvd keep reading at the good speed.So that it won't stop.

Nonsense. What DVD Shrink cannot do (assuming the problem is NOT a physical DVD problem) is read a DVD that is of a region different from that of the drive.

The "I/O key exchange->brute force" settings are usually set by default - and this is what allows DVD Decrypter to read "other region" DVDs from your drive.

You know what
thats very funny because i use dvd region free.
and dvd region free is killing the region problem.
So explain me why then i still have the problem with cdsvd read failed.
