Pioneer A06 can't read it's own burns?

My Pioneer A06 drive can read retail DVDs and any CD just fine, it picks it up immediately. I burned a couple backup DVD-Rs (video) and when I put them back in, my drive can't read them at all. It tries and the cursor in XP has the little disc pop up for a few seconds, but never recognizes the disc. Nero reports that there is no media in the drive or it isn't ready... I'm at a loss?

I gave the disc to a couple of my buddies (both Pioneer A05 drives) and they read the disc fine with no hesitations.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

How did you create the disk?

Have you got any other burning software installed such as VOB or Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD?

Try right clicking your drive and select properties from the menu. if there are any references to any other software, such as IW packet writing software in there, disable it.

I created the disc in nero, and I don't have any other burning programs installed. I do used Nero Imagedrive every now and then, but that is disabled.

I don't see any references to any other software as far as I can tell...

I'd suggest you go online and see if there's a firmware update available for your burner...

I did and I have the latest (1007)

I just reformatted and did a clean install of XP, and it's still not working.

I wonder if something is physically wrong with the drive, but then again it can read everything but it's own DVD burns... I'm so lost

Does it do this with all makes of DVD-R? How about DVD-RW or CDR?

CDR works like a charm, I'll try a different brand of DVD-R to see... I'm also gonna try to see if it will sucessfully verify immediately after the burn.

Probably of no help but I have recently had the same problem after updating to the latest version of DVD Shrink.
What I was doing wrong was I was only burning the contents of my video TS folder and not the folder itself, once I burnt the folder as well as the contents presto the drive that burnt the disks could suddenly read them again.

My drive can't recognize the discs, folder or not. Besides when I burn I use the DVD video setting in Nero, which makes the folder(s) for you. You just drop the vob files in the pre made video_ts folder.

Treytor would you believe Im having the same problem as you again I've tryed different burning programs etc but with no luck!
After I've burnt the disks the burner won't recognise the disk at all yet they play fine in the standalone player.
Im now thinking it might have something to do with the cheap media Im useing.

If our DVD player (computer's) will play an original dvd movie then :

Try a D-5 back-up by downloading the freeware DVDDecrypter v 3.1.9.0 and doing the ripping and burning of a D-5 movie with this software.

Rip with 'Decrypter in ISO mode and then burn in ISO mode that Iso'd movie to a dvd disc and see if both your standalone and A06 can play it.

If your standalone will play, then it is not the media and so I tell you about this way to verify.

I now have Pioneer 104 and 106, defective Pioneers are not usual culprit.

I tried better quality media and guess what I can play them on the computers DVD / burner again.

Hi!
I'm having the same problem.
But it only happens when I record at 1x.
Started burning at 1x for better compatibility with stand alone players.
Any other speed reads fine.
Pretty weird.
I'm using Ridata/Ritek G04, which is considered a very good media.
Any help is welcome.
