Needs Help With Burning

Hi

Recently got a dvd-rw Liteon and got sonic with it that didnt seem to work well at all..went and brought Divx To Dvd and on some movies you preview you it before you burn it and its a white screen and if you burn to try and watch it doesnt let you.. i think its something to do with a fourcc codec? and also sometimes it says the dvd-r drive has a disc with data in or is unknown.. im tottaly lost about all of this i thought it would be straight forward and easy.. can anyone help me?
